Default P5Q Pro Overclocking Guide?

Hey everyone, just finished building my little bro's Q6600 P5Q Pro PC and I need a little help with the BIOS settings on the P5Q Pro. The Pro's BIOS seems a little more complex (read confusing) than my rig's P5K-E WiFi. Although that could be due to me not having had to overclock anything for quite a while...I've gotten rusty. If anyone has an overclocking guide (especially one aimed at the P5Q Pro) or even just some good BIOS settings, I would appreciate it. I have looked at some guides both here and elsewhere, but many of them go too much into overclocking theory rather than just how to do it. Many thanks for the help!

As an aside, I wish the mobo manufacturers would standardise the BIOS terminology and setups...but that will probably never happen...

PM ChrisB17, he has been working on his P5Q Pro OC for a couple days and has been talking with Ket about the settings.

I just bought a P5Q Pro and I look forward to reading and contributing to the guide.
I got to admit the settings are quite confusing.

I don't know why plug and play is default disabled on this mobo

im getting the p5q pro as well, but i need help with e5200 cpu combo!

heres a good review on this board

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...rd-review.html

can u guys find any profiles?

Quote:
The ASUS O.C Profile feature gives users the option to save and switch

between two BIOS profiles, for example an everyday profile and a

benchmarking profile. Not only is this infinitely quicker than

manually inserting every setting, but it might finally allow

overclockers to stop making hand scribbled BIOS setting notes on

random pieces of paper (don’t lie, you’ve all done it!). An

interesting addition is that the O.C Profiles can be saved to a USB

flash drive and shared among fellow P5Q PRO users.

I don't know anyone who actually saves their OC profiles to external media regularly. The two slots provided are generally quite sufficient. And everyone's hardware is different so my settings may or may not work for you. (But when you reflash your BIOS they get erased, so maybe that's a reason to save them.)

The P5Q Pro is by far the worlds easiest overclocker. Set the vCore you want, check your automatic RAM settings to make sure they aren't out of whack, and up the FSB. I clocked my E7200 to 532x9 with everything but the vCore on AUTO.

I'd love to even see a BIOS screen shot of an E7200 POST at 9x532.....

P5Q Pro is easy to OC, to a point, after that it takes some skill.

First, get Ket's 703 BIOS.

After that, here are my suggestions:

1) Don't use the 400 strap, the RAM dividers are hosed
2) Manually set tRD and tRFC at a minimum, ideally you should manually set all of the RAM subtimings
3) Above 1.3v NB voltage requires active cooling and in my experience causes issued when running anything other than 1:1 ratio
4) CPU/NB clock skew - If you are past 450 FSB, you'll need to start manually setting the clock skews. 300 delay is a good starting point for CPU, NB is too variable so you'll have to trial and error it
5) PLL voltage - slightly undervolts by default, set it to 1.56 and if you need more add it, but don't get crazy
6) Manually set GTL ref voltages - if you don't know how, there's a good write on XS

What a coincidence. I just purchased the same board for my test bench! I also purchased a Q6600 with a pack date of 8/07 so hopefully the VID will be friendlier to OC than the new G0's with higher VID's(1.325).

I'm subscribing to this and will post my results here although my proc is a 65nm fab. Let me know if that'd be okay with you since you have a different generation processor.
