I haven't noticed any significant OCing differences between the ASUS BIOSes and Ket's mBIOS.

lu(ky.... have you seen great improvements with the bios from xtreme? does it improve issues with memory and not recognizing EPP profiles?
Well to start off with Im not a big fan of asus so .....

I could get the ip35pro stable at 520fsb with my 3110, and it was a fast board the highest performance level in ram I ever saw was 9. The Q6600 I had could do as high as whats in my sig fsb wise on the ip35pro and I could run stable at like 450fsb.

The asus p5Q allways gives me a higher performance level no matter what I do unless I set it myself and the lowest I can usually get is 9. It isnt any faster at the same clocks and I dont see why it wont get as high a fsb. The memory ocing is the same as the ip35pro (IMO) from what I have scene.

The IP35pro was a expensive P35 board and is of the top performers for that chipset, has a long track record and is a very solid board. I wish abit was staying in mobo making. Its only drawback was bios support which sucked.

The asus is more of a bottom of the line asus board with a very poor track record so far and doesnt seem to be that great of a ocer for higher fsb speeds. Allmost seems like its been nurfed or something.

Anyways this is all just IMHO and I must say I will be replacing the asus at the first possible convenience.

My history was never good when it came to ASUS either. I started with one of their P945 chipsets (P5LD2 I believe) and didn't like it so I got an ABIT AS8 and loved it. Then came the AW8-MAX which was so-so but when I got my IP35 pro I absolutely fell in love. The only reason I made a switch was because I wanted a platform that scaled better for crossfire without breaking the bank. The P45 seemed right up my alley with the 8x/8x crossfire support. I don't run insane resolutions as I only have a 19" LCD monitor so the 16x/16x crossfire isn't neccessarily needed.

I though ABIT was going to release a P45 board but I guess that got scrapped. I'm hoping to recover my OC as now I am having lots of problems with my new g.skill PI memory. I was concerned that I had to over volt my g.skill HZ's to 2.3 to get them stable at 1081mhz. The PI's I picked up were ddr2 1066mhz at 2.1 volts and would rather run stock volate to my memory. Now I can't get stable past 3 hours in orthos. They are pc2-8500 but I run the pc2-6400 memory divider to get the 1081mhz (otherwise they would be at 1440mhz). In cpu-z they show as pc2-6400 even though the part number shows as pc2-8500cl5.

Running memtest86+ now to ensure that it's not a problem with the memory. I almost feel like something happened when trying to run the 500 FSB as it failed and went into BIOS recovery. The old BIOS was recovered (1201) and then I set my initial OC and flashed the BIOS back to 1406. UGH.....

To use a lower tRD you need to increase your memory ratio or reduce the memory CAS. Regardless, the P45 chipset is always going to be two or three steps worse on the tRD than the P35s were.

The P5Qs are near the top of the pack for OCing Yorkfields, but they don't really stand out for dual core chips.

Well.... I think part of my problem was the G.Skill PI's I picked up. Couldn't even get them to run under clocked so I am sending them back to the egg. Back using my my G.Skill pc2-6400 HZ's at 1080MHZ. I set the timings to 5-5-5-15 with tRC 45 and tRD (performance level) at 8. Running orthos now so hopefully I will be stable again with 450 FSB.

You are absolutely right. Because the P45 is on a die shrink, the thermal threshold for the MCH is much lower. I checked Intel's website and their specs have a max voltage of 1.21 on the MCH. To lower the tRD you need to reduce the mem strap as well as CAS and bump the MCH voltage. I'm currently running tRD 8 with the NB at 1.24 volts. It's stable in orthos running large in place FFT's for about 2 and a half hours now so we'll see how it turns out....

Touch sb hst, if it's warm it's good, if its hot and you can't even touch it for 5s lower the voltage.

Thermal specs on intel's website state NB voltage has a max of 1.21 volts. Im running mine at 1.26 for 450FSB but plan to go higher on the voltage to reduce my tRD. Do you have active cooling on the NB or just the stock heatsink?

EDIT: blameless posted on this thread and stated NB at 1.36. So long as yo have good cooling you should be fine at your current voltage.
