Hey guys, I just finished my first system build with my Asus P5Q-E and I freaking love it! So glad to be away from the "mainstream" crap (Gateway). I currently have 4 GB (4 X 1GB) of Corsair XMS2 but my system is only reading 3GB. I am running 64 bit Vista, so it should recognize it. Also, I plan on upgrading to 8GB soon, any suggestions on which RAM to use in this board? The Corsair XMS2 twin 2GB sticks are on sale right now with rebate, but if they don't run well in this board, I'll use something else.

This MoBo rocks! I love the HUGE heatpipe on the P5Q-E, it looks Mean!

Thanks in advance.

Go into the bios under the advanced section and select the Chipset configuration. Select the northbridge option (only one there) and ensure the second option is disabled (the memory remap option). Should do the trick

EDIT: not sure about price but if you can afford it I would suggest my RAM, the G.Skill PI series. I got the DDR2-1100 kits. Guaranteed to run at 1100MHz at only 1.9v. They stay nice and cool and I've had them up to 1165MHz at only 1.94v. I think it was either Tom's or AnandTech that reviewed them and got them to 1200MHz at only 2.0v!

Thanks man, but that didn't work. What voltage should I have the RAM at? I think I bumped it up to 2.2 because that's what it said on the RAM and it also said to check the RAM voltage in the ASUS manual. Everything else is on Auto, and I disabled the memory remap option.

Thanks again.

I'm surprised disabling the memory remap didnt work. I enabled it one time just messing around with the settings and thats when I realized that it would only show my, then, 4GB as only 3GB. Which BIOS version are you on? I have been using a modded BIOS that I downloaded from Ket at xtremesystems.org and couldn't be happier.

As far as the voltage is concerned, if you're not actually OC'ing the memory, then I would just set to what it's rated for (what shows on the RAM sinks).

My RAM is set at 2.10 which is what's on the chip.

The bios is the latest one from ASUS, 2001.

No problem man, you're helping me, I'm the NOOB.

So which bios are you using? I'm downloading Kek's pack now.

I'll try that setting and see what happens.

*Edit* I see it in your sig. 1703, right?

Well, I never got a chance to flash Kek's mBios. I was running the latest ASUS Bios, 2001 (stupid me) and I put my PC in Sleep mode and she never woke up. Tried restarts, resets, you name it, nada. So I switched the jumper to clear the CMOS and now I'm going to flash Kek's mBios. I see the latest for the P5Q-E he has is 1901 but you're running 1703. Any particular reason you didn't go to 1901? I'm going to use 1703 since it's stable for you.

I used to always update when a new BIOS came out when I had my Abit IP35 Pro and started that same trend when I got my Asus P5Q-E but then I ran into a problem. I was using the modded 1406 bios from Ket at XS and decided to update to the 1703. I left my OC settings the way they were and tried to flash through EZ Flash 2 and crashed my BIOS. I was missing options and things were a mess. Then it killed my old G.Skill HZ ram modules.

I started posting at XS and it was explained that sometimes, jumping to each new BIOS isnt always the best option (especially without restoring default BIOS settings to flash). I ended up have to use the back up bios on the board and did successfully flash to 1703. Everything is stable where I want it now so I am going to sit tight on 1703.
