i have it set on auto currently
The only thing the strap setting changes are the allowable ratios.

There is no reason not to leave it on auto and just select the memory speed you want.

I've been pretty happy with the P5Q-Deluxe so far.

Currently running stable with a E8400 @4.0 (9x445) 1.32 vcore. Temps hang around 50-55C under load using Orthos blend (depends on ambient). I did get the FSB up to 475 with the 9x multiplier with an industrial floor fan pointed at the board and a little juice added to the NB & vcore, but it was far from stable. I would be curious to see how others have fared with one under water.

I agree, there's little reason to set the FSB strap to anything beside 400.

I'm using the 266 "strap" (setting is on auto), as that's what gives me the optimal ratio (4:5) for my setup. A lower ratio would hurt performance and the next higher ratio puts me at DDR2-1200, which needs ~2.35v to be totaly stable with my memory and cooling. I'm not willing to up the voltage by two tenths of a volt (and probably kill my ram in a few months) to go from 1125 to 1200.

So, the 400 strap is certainly not ideal for me.

Just recently purchased a P5Q-E + E8400 C0 stepping. Currently in the market for either:
OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (PC2 8500)
or
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (PC2 8500)

I hear that the OCZ Reaper HPC has compatibility issues with many motherboards and CORSAIR lately has been shipping out bad products =\

Otherwise both companies' product are credible.

Does anyone have a recommendation? I only want PC2 8500 (1066) @ 4GB/8GB and yes planning to over clock

G.Skill is good RAM, seems like you have it already, keep it.

Well the abit board of mine is biting the dust. I have decided to order the p5q pro open box at newegg. Pretty good deal right now as you get it for 88 after shipping.

Anything special about this board I should be warned about? I had a bad taste after the P5b deluxe era of asus and havnt gotten one since. However with abit getting out of the business I figured it would be a good time to jump ship.

Not that I know of, I've been using the P5Q for about two months now with an e8400 OC'ed to 3.6Ghz and 2gigs of G.Skill DDR2 800 without any problems.

Just make sure to update the board to the latest BIOS once you get it.
