Interesting. Tell me more about your improved timings.

The board can definitely take a reasonable amount of voltage. I picked up a scythe 40mm MiniKaze and secured it with hot glue to the main part of the NB cooler. This brought the NB temps down to about 30C and that was with the NB voltage at 1.36v and FSB VTT voltage was set at 1.3v. With that I could hit 490MHz FSB but it was just a little too much for the RAM to handle and I didn't want to drop the RAM divider.

I think the key is good memory in combination with the board. The G.Skill PI kit that I had was rated at DDR2 1100 at 1.9v with 5-5-5-15 timings which I think helped a lot. The key is definitely trying to get the performance level down in the memory settings section of the BIOS. The performance level is also referred to as tRD and can drastically reduce overall system latency. With the FSB at 475MHz there is simply no way to get lower than a performance level of 8 (as fas as I know without an insane amount of voltage on the NB) but that is much better than running 10 or 12 (which is automatically set in according with the RAM divider and reset strap used).

I threw a waterblock on my Northbridge, and I have an insane pair of Buffalo Firestix that overclock from 800 MHz to well over 1066, and some OCZ Fatal1ty RAM that is going to justify its hype tonight. Thanks for your advice.

Default My first attempt at overclocking...

I built this rig around January and have just gotten around to trying to OC it for the first time.

I'm wondering if I did it right because well, I didn't do a whole lot. All I did was take the V-Core off Auto and set it to 1.275v, and then bumped the bus speed up to 425MHz from the stock 333MHz. If I bump it up to just 400MHz, I get 3.6GHz.

My video card is OC'd from the factory.

Did I do something wrong because it appears to be stable after running tests and graphic grabbing apps like Ka-50 in full screen 1920x1080 with no problem, and temps aren't that bad topping out in the low 50°C's.

What says everybody else?

If Orthos runs stable for 24 hours then I would say you have nothing to worry about.

Got me a P5Q deluxe mobo and it's really nice! Just have some questions:

1. How do you disable the ASUS 5 sec. OS thing? It keeps popping up when I boot and I'll have to wait 10sec for it to boot to windows.
2. How do you disable to Marvel RAID thing? It also pops up when booting and gives a a 5 sec delay to booting.
3. Sleep/Standby/S3 mode doesn't work when overclocked? (this issue is also present in my previous MSI P45 plat mobo)
4. Configure SATA as AHCI causes OC instability? When using AHCI on 3GHz, it doesn't seem to boot to windows.. but when I leave it at IDE, I can boot to windows.
5. EIST and C1E enabled, but doesn't lower my vcore when idle (even though my cpu will drop to 2GHz on idle, vcore remains at 1.325v -- which is my 3GHz's vcore)

Btw, I haven't updated the bios (using the bios that came with my mobo).

Enter BIOS, go to the Advanced tab, Onboard Devices Configuration, and disable the Marvel IDE thing. Then go to Tools and disable ExpressGate.

Don't know about the other stuff.

What exactly have you tried, and what settings are you at? I don't know if you'll be able to hit 3.8GHz stable on air cooling, the quad cores don't overclock as well as dual cores and a 30%+ OC might be asking too much for air on that chip. Also what's your PSU? Add it to your system thing.
