Question Gigabyte EP45-UD3R isnt letting me overclock at all!

I ordered a gigabyte EP45-UD35 and got it up and running today. Core temp shows the Q6600 running no hotter then 28C on any of the cores at idle so i decided id try some overclocking. (main reason i bought this board) I did a very simple OC by putting the FSB at 333mhz and setting the multiplier to 9. (3.0ghz) I left the voltages on auto just to see if she would boot. Well...when i save the settings and restart, it starts to fire up, but then crashes and resets everything.(which means it failed.) I tried raising the voltages slightly but still had no luck. Anything other then stock simply wont work. I have also flashed to the latest bios. Can someone help me out here?

And yes i disabled all the power saving and automatic downclocking crap that comes on when the system is not under much load. (Im too lazy to go back and look at what they are called, but im sure you guys know what im talking about)

Welcome back to OCN. Did you read this thread?

What's your chip's VID as shown in CoreTemp?

Did you remember to set your RAM timings to manual? On this board you should set Extreme Memory Profile(XMP) to Disabled, and Performance Enhance to Standard, before you start overclocking at all. Then set up all your RAM timings.

You will need to manually change voltages in most cases and make sure you turn the m.i.b ( i think it is) from turbo down to standard

It was indeed the Ram timings. I set them to manual and changed the DRAM multiplier to 2.40B which made it 800mhz and it fired right up. Now im gonna work on getting it to around 3.4ghz. Can anyone give me some pointers as to what kind of volts ill need on this board to achieve that?

@ 3.4 id guess 1.40-1.45Vcore. just remember to keep an eye on your ramspeed while increasing your FSB. you may have to use another dram-multiplier.

I just uped the clock speed to 3.4ghz and im glad i noticed that. It had my ram at 911mhz and probably wouldnt have been stable at all lol. So far it booted up just fine on 1.35 vcore but only time and prime 95 will tell me if its stable.

VID is 1.2875. The 3.4ghz overclock ended quickly at 1.35 vcore during a prime95 test.(i figured it would) I put the vcore up to 1.40 and it only lasted for 30 minutes in prime using the torture test for maximum heat and power consumption.(Not GOOD!) So I enabled the setting that helps with vdroop and it appears to be stable but now im having problems with heat. On idle its under 37C but when i do a stress test the temps are like a freakin xbox 360. I watched it go as high as 77C before i stopped the test out of fear.
