It is for all Gigabyte G31M-S2L board owners who cannot overclock more after getting to 1333 MHz FSB.
G31M-S2L is a cheap yet good board. But some owners[including me!!!] have been complaining that the board won't pass 1333 MHz FSB although the gigabyte site and manual says that it can do 1600MHz[o.c.] FSB. After trying for some days I've finally got the solution. It's the PCI-E frequency what is restricting you from going over 1333 MHz. But point to be noted that you should never set PCI-E frequency over 110 Mhz. I've got to 1432 MHz FSB with my 45nm Intel E7200 after setting PCI-E frequency to 105. This particular frequency supports more FSB but I kept it to the minimum level as I have no aftermarket cooler. So, the lesson learnt is that each value of PCI-E frequency after 100MHz supports a range of FSB. [The VGA will not be fried unless you cross 110 MHz- as far as I know - correct me if I'm wrong. But atleast my 9800GT is not fried yet and the system is very stable] STEPS: 1. Go to the BIOS and press Ctrl+F1. Then disable C1E, EIST, TM2 etc etc, you know that !!!] 2. Get to 1333 MHz FSB. [You know that too.... ]3. Set the System Memory Multiplier [SPD] = 2.00 and set the timings to like 6-6-6-18. 4. Set the PCI-E frequency to 100. 5. Set the Voltage Control to Auto. 5. Now increase the PCI-E frequency by 1 step. [Now you should be able to get a bit over 1333 MHz .......xD] 6. Increase the FSB by a small and reasonable amount [2MHz-3MHz] and reboot . 7. Do the following: Reboot Successful --> Follow Step 6. Reboot Fail------------> Follow Step 5. 8. Follow Step 7 until you get to your needed FSB...........but be reasonable and stay under safe voltage limit for your processor. Then manually decrease the voltage by a notch and check stability bla bla bla which I'm not going to explain because they are time consuming and pathetic. NOTE: ☼ The solution is recommend for people who has a good knowledge on overclocking. ☼ Do everything at your own risk. I will not be responsible for your action. ☼ Never cross the 110 MHz line for PCI-E frequency. ☼ Personally I didn't try to get over 1450 MHz FSB as I'm on stock cooler. ☼ If this solution is helpful and solves problems for everyone, I might make a detailed tutorial on G31M-S2L overclock .. .. :P ☼ Please correct me if I made mistake anywhere. BTW, is the title alright ?

Thanks mate. Did it work for you? It should.
Now I have 380 FSB with 112 PCI-E.

112 PCI-E seems rather dangerous to your SATA drives. People have reported data corruption above 110. Keep us updated on how it goes and whether this is actually safe!

I'm using Mainboard Gigabyte G31M-ES2C. CPU E2160 and 2GB RAM KINGMAX.
I'm overclock maximum FSB to 375Mhz and stable in FSB 367Mhz but i'm when set FSB 333Mhz (333x9) and test very stable (24h orthos, 12h play games), vcore 1.45 in BIOS and drop to 1.40 in Windows, cas ram 6 6 6 18 (2.66) vdrim + 0,2. but i'm when shutdown computer and turn on now but computer load Default BIOS . when i'm set FSB 300Mhz (300x9) but not load DF BIOS, 312Mhz up very easy load DF BIOS. it is gigabytes of disease ?Please help me ! sorry my english very bad |
