I just ordered a DFI DK X38 and will be replacing my abit IP35 Pro with it. What sort of things will I need to do to ensure everything is working. My guess is use the DFI CD first to install whatever drivers I need using as minimal hardware as necessary (CPU, 1 stick of RAM, video card, C drive, keyboard/mouse), then after the drivers are installed, add the rest of my hardware?

Mobo changes usually call for a re-install of the OS. I've had a few builds that actually booted up on a new mobo and old hdd, but it's just a headache to work everything over.
Look at it as a clean start.

If you have an OEM copy of Vista/XP you're going to run into problems reinstalling on the new motherboard because the OEM license is tied to the original (The first motherboard you installed the OS with) motherboard.

I guess I'll just do a clean install... I have all the programs that are a pain to install on a separate HDD anyway

It should boot right up, albeit with no sound or network.

You'll have to reinstall your OS... unless your new motherboard is the same one as your old one

I am on the same boat, fresh reinstall is the way to go. If you haven't made backups, install linux on a partition and mount your windows partition->burn files to dvd. And voila, bob's your uncle!

Bah, reinstall is overdone. Half the time people reinstall, it wasn't even necessary in the first place.

Your operating system is linked to your motherboard... any time you change the motherboard, you HAVE to reinstall your OS
