SO yeah, after messing 6 hours on my friends comp yesterday it turns out it starts showing problems now.
The only hardware modfication we did was taking out the HSF (True extreme 120) and add the fan onto it. However, we didn't add new thermal paste, but the comp has never been on full laod so its not like the cpu overheated or anything. Anyway, he jsut now told me on msn that his pc sometimes dousnt boot up. Appearantly it does post, because it goes away from the first screen (with all the info) but then he told me his monitor just kept having a black screen. Then he had to reset a few times, and then he told me his screen started showing alot of lines (coloured ones to) Then after resseting a few times again he finnaly got it to boot up. I told him to try again now, and it worked pefectly fine for 3x in a row. This however, still dousn't satisfie me that nothing is wrong. The current thinks i can thinkg off is either his GPU being affect, his monitor or the PSU So first i wanna ask you if this PSU was a good choise: http://www.alternate.be/html/product...wTechData=true And secondly I'd like to know if there's more ways to find whats causing this His rig: Windows vista ultimate 64bit SP1 Q6600 Ep45-ds3 dominator pc8500 ddr2 4GB ram (2x 2GB) Sapphire Radeon HD4870 1GB LG 22" monitor Spinpoint F1 samsung HD (1 TB) Lg dvd burn drive True extreme 120 ultra kaze 3000 fan Antec 900

Make sure the power plug for the Video card didn't come loose and/or make sure the Video card is still seated right.

he/you didn't re-apply thermal paste after removing the Heatsink from the CPU? correct? It may or may not be the cause of the problem, but I"m pretty sure that it's strongly recommended to re-apply thermal paste each time you seperate the two components.

Putting new TIM wouldn't hurt and won't take too much time. I suggest you try it just to be safe.

Lines in the screen and not booting points to the videocard. Maybe reseat it?

Once it does boot, have him monitor the temps for both the CPU and the GPU. Could the added fans be causing airflow issues with the video card, causing it to overheat?
You could have also bumped the video card when reinstalling the TRUE, so pulling out the card and re seating wouldn't hurt.

What game is he playing and at what res? 45-50 is really hot for a Q6600 at stock with a TRUE and an Ultra Kaze 3k. EDIT: If he's not playing SuperCom at 1280*1024, then buy some TIM ASAP. My QX9650 loats at 54C with 1.416v with 18C ambient... with Orthos. My fan puts out 150CFM with a lot more static pressure than the UK3k.
