Default Mobo fan = LOUD

For quite some time, I have noticed that my computer was extremely noisy. Now there is a rattling sound coming from inside my case. I just upgraded my PSU, so it isn't that, I ruled out that the rattling isn't from my GPU (even though it is really loud), and it definitely isn't coming from my Zalman.

I am pretty sure the sound is coming from the mobo chipset fan on my A8N-SLI. Now I kind of wish I had gotten the Premium. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem, other than replacing the entire mobo?

(Will never have a silent PC )

How about an Thermilright chip set pipe HS
I've even run them wothout a fan because the case fan happened to put a direct air flow over it.

Is it a relatively easy replacement? And is there any way to test for sure that it really is my chipset fan?

I'd put a Thermalright NB heatsink on it. If it fits..
(or a new fan )

If your careful, you can unplug the fan while its running for a few seconds... noise gone = fan bad.
Or apply slight pressure to the fans center hub with your finger while its running to slow it... fan noise changes = fan bad.

Easy to replace, it could be on some MBs.
A toe nail clipper works great for snipping the plastic retainers to remove the old HS without removing the MB... but if the MB is still under warranty therwe goes the warranty.
Clean of the chip, apply TIM, pop on the Thirmalright heat pipe HS with the new plastic retainers and add fan if needed to maintain safe temps.

One problem is that the fan happens to be right in front of my PCIE slots - http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Arti...otos/3mobo.jpg. That really limits my options.

I did push on it and the sound did change a little bit, but it is so damn loud in there it's hard to tell where sounds are coming from haha.

I had the same problem with this board. If you google it you will see Asus replaced the fan on request, it was a known fault. I dont know if theyre still offering that now because that was about 4 years ago.

My solution was a Zalman NB Cooler, which is smaller than the cooler The Duke posted. It didnt interfere with my cards, though it will be tight. Worked fine!

Ive seen some stick on fan NB coolers just like the Asus one. Much easier to install.

I picked up this at microcenter. Not sure if it will get the job done.

It may be even better than the stock fan. It doesn't have all those design covers.
