Hey all,
Last night I put together my new build and I'm a bit confused as to how to overclock this bad boy. Previous to this I used AMD Processors so this is my first Intel experience... I've followed some of the steps on Robilar's "guide" (first post, Robilar's BIOS settings - disable C1E etc..) but I haven't been able to overclock at all, not even to 3.2GHz with a v-core of 1.35...On 3.2GHz it posts but won't go to the XP loading screen - it just reboots... Please please give me some help, what settings should I be running - is there certain things I need to disable? Thanks, ~Powelly

First of all make sure all your memory settings are manually set so it doesn't go all whack on "auto" settings.
So: - set DRAM voltage - set MCH frequency latch (I advise 333) - set memory multiplier (start with 2.0) - set timings manually Other things you must change: - set MCH to at least 1.20v - set CPU termination voltage to at least 1.22v - set CPU vcore manually (to 1.30v or so)

Alright Andy, I'm just re-installing XP now and I'll try those settings ASAP. Cheers for the fast reply!
EDIT: Okay, with these settings I can boot into 3.15GHz but when I try 3.33GHz it fails like said above...thoughts? 3.15GHz vcore was 1.30v but when I tried 3.33GHz it failed so upped it to 1.40v and it failed....ARGH!

Don't raise to vcore to 1.4v, it's much too high for 3.33Ghz. With 1.3v in the bios you might even be able to get 3.8Ghz - 4.0Ghz. So leave your vcore at 1.30v for now. Raise your MCH to 1.3v. Set your DRAM termination voltage to half your DRAM voltage. Then you could also try raising the CPU termination to 1.26v.

When it reboots itīs usually because it doesnīt like your memory, MCHv or MCH ref setup.
Hereīs a screenie with my Q9650@500 4,00, ram 4x2 1000 555 15 tRD 9 Turbo Latch 400 Multi 2,00D. If itīs to high FSB to start with you can try FSB 450 4,05 2x2 1080 555 15 tRD 8 Turbo Latch 333 Multi 2,40B, only different for me was that I could lower CPU Term with 0,02v and MCH core with 0,02v. Notice that I need ~0,840v MCH ref (set when CPU Term is 1,20v) to be stable, on step up or down it fails. About CPUv, I need 1,3875 (loadline enabled, in Windows under load 1,36) to be stable through LinX but I can lower it by 0,10v to pass Prime95 small FFT, so you have to find out what your chip need to be stable. I hope it can help you some, good lucky. ![]()

Also its a 2x2Gb stick phenomenon, I don't think it happens whenever you have 4 x 1Gb sticks.

Woo thanks to you I managed to get it working!
So far I'm managing to boot into 4.25GHz no worries (only had to bump up vcore past 1.35)! Will check with Orthos soon... Thanks so much for your help! Rep+ Any idea what it was? MCH and/or RAM timings? And what is MCH? Thanks again Andy! Check my sig for CPUz link...
