Exclamation abit still honoring RMA!

Hey all,

Figured I'd make a post about this after finding this out during my IP35 Pro freebie.

abit is still accepting RMAs for boards, which I didn't think to be the case. They got back to me within minutes of submitting an RMA request! That would be excellent customer support for any company, but this is stellar for a company that doesn't really exist anymore.:nod::nod:

If you need to submit an RMA for an abit board, then go here and submit it. I thought they weren't honoring them anymore as some questions for an RMA I had submitted before they officially closed went unanswered. I guess they were just lost in the system or something.

My dedicated folding rig will be on its way back to life

I'll post again once I get my board back, let everyone know how the process went.

In case anyone is curious, here is the info of the board I'm sending back.

Board: abit IP35 Pro v1.1.
Original Purchase: 01/22/2008 from Newegg
Issue 1: Initially, SATA ports would not detect more than three hard drives; POST would take a significantly longer time if more than three devices were attached (~8 minutes to work through the first BIOS screen). I later discovered this was caused by the 1TB Seagate 7200.11 being in the process of dying.
Issue 2: Post Code 8.7 ("Enable ATX Power Supply") when paired with Antec Earthwatts 650W PSU and a Silverstone 550W PSU. Two sets of RAM and three video cards were swapped around and every combination yielded [8.7].

I love this board, I hope it will live again! Although I will likely get the Pro XE, which I guess is ok.

Yes, I believe that USI now owns Abit, and that service will still be provided for a couple more years.

They ask for S/N, and their RMA guidelines say as long as you're in 3 years of manufacture date, I believe. So they can probably look that up. Just might charge you $25 for the "labor" of searching it. Give it a shot! I'll be worth it

Quote:
Universal abit USA ("Uabit") offers limited warranty on the hardware (the "Product") against defects in material or workmanship for a period of three (3) year from the original date of manufacturing for all products, purchased in the United States (excluding territories) or Canada from Uabit or Uabit-authorized dealers. If your product is within two (2) years from the original date of manufacturing, or one (1) year from the original date of purchase from Uabit or Uabit-authorized dealers -- whichever is longer -- for Motherboards; or fifteen (15) months from the original date of manufacturing, or one (1) year from the original date of purchase, whichever is longer for system products and all other products and accessories. If you have the invoice of original purchase with you and your product is still within that period, we will take care of your repair for you at no charge. In the following cases, there will be $25 service charge for covering the labor and associated handling cost with Uabit reserves all rights. Payment can be made by check to ---- Universal Abit USA Corporation:

(a) No invoice but the product is still within the three (3) year period from the original manufacturing date

(b) Product is in the third year from the original manufacturing date and it is more than one (1) year from the original date of purchase from Uabit or Uabit-authorized dealers
Yeah, looks like it'll be $25 for RMA as long as they're still within the 2-3 years. Not sure if it would be considered workmanship or not, but it should be... so possibly 3 years.

...that's a lot of fleabay refurbies o.O

Good luck getting everything up and running again! Shame I couldn't get it, though. I think I'm going to head over to Ebay and see if I can get an Abit mobo then.

Haha, yeah. Shame I couldn't get that 9800GX2, too . Search for 8.2 and 8.7 Post code IP35s. Those shouldn't have physical damage, and will effectively be bricked and RMA-able.

Hmmm, I might wanna read into this then before I send the board out. Thanks for the heads up.

On an optimistic note, it'd be cool if they replace boards with the X38. It has a better layout for cards than the IP35 You can fit two dual-slot cards and a single-slot card fine, then a second single-slot card if you use a PCI-e 1x riser
