Default Gigabyte P35-DS3L vs EP45-DS3L

hi, first time poster here. i currently am running a P35-DS3L and had the chance to buy a brand new EP45-DS3L for $60 shipped as a back up board but now i am undecided on which board to use as backup!!! i am very happy with the way my system runs. are there any other people here who have run both boards and can persuade me to install the EP45? just looking for some of your thoughts on this. specs for my sysltem are in my signature, thank you to all that reply.

Do you already have the EP45-DS3L or are you thinking about buying it?

IMO, you don't need a backup board at all. Save money for your next build or get a new HSF to push your overclock a bit more.

I have the EP35-DS3L and EP45-UD3P, there's not a lot of performance difference between motherboard. Most of the noticeable performance will come from the CPU and GPU of choice.

If that's the case, then go ahead and use the EP45. I think it has a few nifty features that can help you overclock a bit more, Like LLC, Load Line Calibration.

I don't see the benefit in going with the P45, but since you already bought it, you might as well. It was mentioned above that the P45 has LLC, by doing a pencil mod on the P35, LLC isn't needed. I bet that the P35 can clock the Q6600 as good as the P45.

BTW, rather than listing your set up in your sig, you can go into the User CP, and enter all your system specs there. Then it will show up like ours.

From what i've heard the P45 chipset will overclock quads a little better than the P35 chipset.

I just came from the EP35-DS3L to the EP45-UD3L. Love it.

Just made the switch from P35 to P45 and in my opinion there is a small but noticeable difference. Specially with higher FSB. With your Q66 there will be very little (or no diff) as far as CPU Clock goes. If you already got it then use it for sure, because it is a better chip.

i went from P35-DS3L to EP45-UD3P and my q6600 requires less voltage for 24/7 stable 3.6Ghz

I have the MSI P35 Platinum and if I had the EP45-UD3P/R I'd switch in a split second.
P45 Boards have PCIe 2.0 x16, P35s don't.
P45s also generally support more max memory than P35s.
P45s are also better with higher FSBs.
I'd go for the EP45.
