Hey everyone,
I apologize if it sounds a bit noobie of a question but I was wondering if running unlinked RAM and CPU FSBs are bad idea on NVIDIA boards, say like 780i. The reason I ask is because I've had Intel chipsets for most of my computer experience and never had to deal with unlinking the FSBs. However I will soon be acquiring an EVGA 780i board for SLI purposes and I wanted to transfer my current OC to it so I'm just looking for heads up information. Can anyone fill me in on a little more detail about it? Is there some kind of limit? How far apart from each other should they NOT be? Is there a voltage bump/lowering required for it? Thanks in advance to everyone.

Their is nothing harmful about it. If that's what you're asking.

No it just means you can run the RAM at a speed not based on a FSB:RAM ratio. That can be beneficial for OC'ing. It is an option that OC'er's would like. Basically allows more fine tuning.

Not that it's harmful but whether if they are too far apart will that impact the stability?

Seems a little too good to be true for me. There's gotta be a catch somewhere. It just doesn't seem like a good idea that CPU and RAM are running at different FSB speeds.

No. There is no problem running unlinked. You can run it as slow or as fast as you want.

i thought it just ran the RAM at a divider. like running the ram at 2:3 on an intel board

That's if you're running them linked. Then yes, a divider(SPD) comes into play.
