Default **(G)MCH Frequency Latch question**

Hi everyone,

I'm currently trying to work on OCing my GA-EP45-UD3R board and I have a question about the (G)MCH Frequency Latch and SPD settings. I know (from what I read) it's better option to choose "Auto" for the (G)MCH Frequency Latch and manually choose the SPD. However, there seem to two SPD settings that are the same 2.00B and 2.00D except B is latched to 333MHz FSB and D is latched to 400MHz FSB.

I am currently running 445MHz FSB and occasionally 475MHz FSB. For this setting which SPD should I be using?

2.00B (333MHz) or 2.00D (400MHz)?

Thanks in advance...

Try not bumping after only 21 minutes.

"auto" is not the best thing.

Select the 400mhz latch and pick 2.00 D

All Auto does is allow you to choose any SPD otherwise you are only limited to the ones for the latch you pick so it doesn't really make a difference as far as I see. You can still choose 2.00D from Auto.

Why would 400mhz latch be more fitting?

It is my understanding that the 400 latch is looser than the 333 and is easier to run above 400FSB
I try to match the FSB to the latch

What role does the latch play exactly in terms of CPU/RAM/NB/FSB?

This latch ius confusing especially the way gigabyte does it with ABCD etc. If you are above 333-400 use 400 usually. This is internal northbridge timmings etc and I used everest etc. to see the benchmarks and there really wrent any gains and I could run 1600 at all 4 latches 200 266 333 400 with no instability and I noticed very little gain on any so I just selected 400 as I actually had the best results with it.

There really is no quantative value you can see when setting NB memory latches such as logging into everest adn looking it up etc. But yes universally you want it at 400 if you are anywhere near where you are at.

Not sure how it (the latch) interacts with everything. I select the latch by using the Ram speed formula--FSBx MM (memory multiplyer)= Ram frequency. So in my case I am running a 400FSB x 2.66 (MM) =1066,so I pick D latch(400) and 2.66 multi. Right or wrong ,that's how I select them

This is how I've come to understand it.

0-265FSB = 200mhz strap
266-332 FSB = 266 Strap
333-400MHZ = 333 strap
400+ fsb = 400strap.

I've actually tested this and it's come out to be true.
I can't boot AT ALL at 268 with the 200 strap enabled and can with the 266.
I can boot fine at 399 with the 333mhz strap but it refuses to do so with the 400mhz strap.

So, I just run 400 all the time at 400FSB (RAM limitation)
