Default Maximus 2 Formula Sparkle!!!

Hi guys, I had a really big problem with my pc. Ok here is what happened. I bought maximus 2 formula motherboard a few weeks ago and i used it for 3 days overclocked and all and then i swithced to my old mobo to see the difference between them and the performance. after that my old mobo would not even start up. then i switched to maximus 2 formula back and then when i pressed the power button there was a sparkle next to the cpu fan plug-in on the motherboard and then some lights of the motherboard would not work and i saw a black screen and nothing would come up. Also my cpu fan did not work after that sparkle!!! i tested my cpu on my friend's mobo and it was alright so no problem with that. I sent my mobo back to where i bought it from and got the money back so im safe now. But i ordered a new maximus 2 formula now from another store and im waiting for it to come. Im just wondering why would there be a sparkle on my motherboard when i didnt do anything? OH and also the only i changed was the 8-pin and 4-pin power plug that connects to my motherboard from the power supply. i plugged in the 8-pin one to see if something changes like overclocking or something. but this sparkle thing happened after i plugged in that 8-pin connector that comes from my corsair power supply? I also think that it might be my memory that caused the sparkle because i overclocked it too much??default clock speed for my memory is 800mhz! please help guys i really need to know what the problem is because i dont want this to happen on the new maximus 2 formula again!!!!

More than likely, one of the standoffs the goes between the motherboard and the plate it mounts onto shorted out the motheboard. Be careful when installing another motherboard.
