Default ASUS Z8NA-D6C, consumer desktop?

This asus z8na motherboard has dual LGA 1366 slots and DDR3 slots.

Why don't more people use these for gaming? LGA 1366 is i7 is it not? Wouldn't 2 i7's with 12GB's of RAM be a beast of a machine?

Perhaps I am missing something and this wouldn't work with XP, Vista, and 7? Or something else.

What keeps this board from being used as a gaming/performance board?

Thanks,
JOe K.

2 X E5520 Nehalem 2.26GHz and a GTX295 would still be pretty quick. 770 for the processors, 260 for the board, and 500 for the card. Cooling maybe an issue.

If I win the lottery I'll get one to bench it.

Most games need 2 threads. Only very few need more. There would be no benefit to having 8 or even 16 cores for gaming.

These workstation/server mobos also do not have good overclocking capabilities. The expansion port is not geared for gaming or desktop.

It's REAL nice, especially for video editing. For gaming it's an overkill for the above stated reasons. The 2x E5520 would be blazing for video processing though. And with stock 5.86GT/s, we are talking 24GB+ of memory easy.

I was building very similar systems for a video editing company til they went out of business, now I just have all these parts laying around. -_- Would put them to use, but I don't need crazy machines like that. haha Would be beyond beautiful if I did stuff like vid editing though.

I was thinking of just finishing them so I can fold like a monster and up OCN's team rank. =P

You say the board doesn't have good overclocking capabilities - could you expand or clarify this a bit please? Dual processor is a must for my purposes - actually it's, "The more threads the better". That said, if I can have the bonus of overclocking some Xeon 5520s, that'd be "cat's ass", if you will.

Any other boards you'd recommend that can fit 2 Xeons and would be better for overclocking? A single 16x PCIe port is fine for my purposes.

I'm also interested in water cooling the processors. The solution I'm looking into now is either dedicated fan and pump per CPU, or a combined unit I can expand to RAM cooling later... Might have to go with the combined unit though - there's not much room left in the case for dedicated coolers...

Exclamation I NEED to know if this board can overclock 2 x5570's

I NEED to know if this board can overclock 2 x5570's. Nobody seems to know. What options are there in the bios?

I just got 2 x5570's and I want to buy a board for them ASAP.

Thanks for your help.
