Just ordered an open box one.

I can't wait to see what the NB/SB area looks like under that monster displaced heatsink. It'll be fun trying to figure out how to improve NB cooling on that freak.

Any luck with nf200 cooling ideas, Patch? I am considering this board, and I am not afraid to put some Panaflos on there, but I would think someone would offer a full cover block.

It actually stays quite cool (outside of a case). I removed the heatsink apparatus to look under the hood and was very pleased with the contact everything made with stock thermal paste and pads.

Even with high NB voltages the extensive heatpipes to the sinks on the Vregs work great with high CFM fans on the heatsinks.

I have ordered it. I love daydreaming about cooling solutions, anyway, but it sounds like this board handles it's two Nf200s, better than the NF200 Classy cools it's one NF200, would you say that is true?

What are your approximate average and max NB temps?

I don't need a water block, worrying about temps, and improving them incrementally, but within an already acceptable range is more of a hobby, I suppose, then a necessity.

Have you thrown a pot on there yet?

(Keep up the good work!)

It's not a fair comparison because there are a lot of confounding variables (described below), but the P6T7 NB temps are far superior to the ClassyX4 as in 20's-30's vs 40's to 50's.

I think the heatpipe assembly is much better on the P6T7. It spreads the heat out to a variety of heatsinks where it's easy to get massive airflow. The ClassyX4, on the other hand, concentrates a lot of big heatsink over the NB and under the GPU's. And the horizontal orientation of the fins on the big Classy heatsink make it tough to get heavy concentrated airflow through them. Granted, I haven't removed the heatsink yet on the Classy (waiting until I'm ready to prep it for LN2) so it may simply have awful TIM contact.

Yeah, I've frozen the P6T7. Unfortunately, I had a crap CPU for it (replacement in the mail right now). My only real gripe with the P6T7 is a big one: it throttles turbo on i7's so it's tough to get the massive benches with it.

I'm not saying you can chock the whole difference in NB temp up to TIM contact, but that it is applied crappily is almost certain.

Couldn't a newer BIOS revision provide user control over Turbo throttling? I wonder if they will provide such a BIOS.

I read about the throttling, but I also read that around ~80c (on the dts/TjMax, I guess), it starts throttling. Is that true, that it is also temperature dependant? (That one is more academic, I don't expect 80c).

Is there anything you particularly like about it?

I think that because it's a workstation board ASUS isn't too interested in satisfying a few hardcore overclockers with BIOS updates - since they probably feel that they produce a number of boards for that segment of the population anyway.

I haven't found a way to get it to not turbo throttle - whether on water or LN2.

I like that it's well made, stable and has 4 PCIE X 16 slots.

+ reps Patch!

Well, the throttling on ln2 is just bizarre to imagine, but I wont let that ruin my fun and productivity (Productivity! ROFL!).
