Default The ASUS/ASrock P55 and X58 Club & Discussion(Under construction)

Signature:
ASUS/ASrock X58/P55 Club

This is a club for the X58 and P55 boards of ASUS and ASrock this thread will keep score of overclocks, and eventually contain the links for BIOS updates. Some AMD boards MIGHT be added in the future. THIS THREAD IS ALSO A DISCUSSION THREAD

Why ASrock?

ASrock has been shelling out new award winning motherboards since late 2008. ASrocks customer support is blazing fast, specifically E-Mail support, I got a respond from support within 30 minutes of sending them an E-mail. ASrock was spun off of ASUS in 2002, and some of these boards still run through ASUS before being sold, and most of us know, ASUS makes high quality boards. ASrock makes very energy efficient boards, in fact most of there recent boards are EUP and EUP 2.0 certified. ASrock is currently offering 80 people who bought Extreme and Deluxe edition boards free ASrock SATA 3 cards. ASrock boards are cheap, and have features that most high end boards have. ASrock often uses very unique features on there boards that are often adopted by bigger motherboard companies. (E-SATA USB and CCO) Some people say to avoid ASrock boards because some of the boards in the past had locked BIOS's or didn't do well, that is clearly a thing of the past.

Why ASUS?
ASUS is the parent company of ASrock, and sometimes there boards run through ASUS first. ASUS is one of the most famous motherboard manufacturers and often manufactures award winning boards. Almost everybody who has built a computer will recommend you and ASUS board, because with there ultimate performance mixed with there great customer support, you've got a clear winner.

WARNING: Some budget P55 boards have been having problems when overclocking processors past 1.425 volts, eventually causing part of the motherboard to go up in smoke, kill the processor, or blow a capacitor, one of them is the P55 PRO. (Others being MSI P55 CD53 and ECS P55H) (Some more low end boards may have the same problems, these are the only ones confirmed) (The P55M PRO may have the same problem as the P55 PRO)

Note from ASrock:ASRock confirmed that its P55 Pro was designed to handle a smaller power load, based on Intel's lower TDP for LGA 1156 processors, and has sent a BIOS its representatives claim will enable built-in over-current protection. IF YOU OWN A P55 PRO, PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BIOS.

i had it stable @ 3.8ghz with HT enabled @ 1.344 volts under load, but felt the average idle/load temps were too high, so i backed it down to 3.51 ghz @ 1.24 volts, and my temps have yet to peak 60c.

i gotta say, this is my first asrock board, after several years of gigabyte/asus, i have to say, this board has surpassed all expectations.

i could have def spent more on a board that barely had the features of the asrock p55 pro, but i didn't need too

the biggest buying point this board, was the cooler combo option, as trying to find a 1156 bracket for my dark knight has proven to be damn near impossible, and i wasn't in the mood to buy a new cooler, and i am actual quite glad i didn't, cause i was looking at the megahalem/shadow, and there is no way i would have been able to install that monster, with the ram/pci-e/mosfet heatsinks being so close to the socket, and this isn't limited to the asrock boards, i was at Microcenter the other day, and looked at a few evga's and gigabytes p55's and they seem to have the cramped area as well, only on the very high end p55's this seems to have been "corrected".

so like i said, i am glad i purchased this motherboard, instead of the gigabyte p55 ud3l/r that newegg had for the same price, cause this board just ROCKS!

Thanks for joining, finally someone who went ASrock, I am not disappointed either, it total exceeded my expectations, and for $169.99, you cannot go wrong. The board has more features than boards that would of cost me $70-$100 more.

okay i've checked my pin contact points on my cpu, dismantled my rig for this LOL, and it seems the pin contact is correct...i haven't taken a magnifying glass to this to confirm or not, but from what i've been reading about the chips burning up and the socket, honestly does seem like user error more than a manufacturing defect...

the socket does seem a lot looser than the 775 socket and i can see the chip being slightly offset, but after many years of experience with the lga type sockets, you get use to this and can compensate.

i really don't care what these extreme overclockers say they did or didn't do, to me i've been doing overclocking for about 2 years now, and i am not very good at it , but i've been building computers since 96 or so, so i think that has a lot to do with when putting a computer together and overclocking at the same time.

well i hope this isn't going to be a continuing problem with this, cause it makes me really dissapointed that i didn't go 1366 when 1156 has these problems...but then again, i am not an extreme overclocker LOL 3.5 ghz with ht is very fast for me, faster than my q9400 @ 3.73 ghz , i would even venture in saying that this cpu is faster at stock than the q9400 was at 3.72 ghz LOL...

Default I would like to be added to this club

I just built a new rig with an ASRock P55 Extreme (1.7 Bios) and i5 750.

I haven't had much luck with overclocking yet as I am a recent convert from AMD motherboards and many of these settings are unfamiliar. I have not tried using any of the overclocking software as I usually like working in the BIOS.

I am using GSkill PC3 2000 memory.
