for performance... but it's rather old... the 771 xeons are similar to the 775 processors...
and it only supports 32GB... i'd much rather have... a nice dual 1366 board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131379 $500... and add two of these CPUs... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117179 $3400 and 144GB of ram... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820609486 $9960 and a case with plenty of drive space and redundant power supplies http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811165183 $2700 and a controller card that can handle most of the drives that case can hold... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816151053 $1500 normally i wouldn't consider "desktop" drives... but with 24 of them i'm going to saturate the controller anyways... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136344 $4800 24*2TB, raid6 with 2 hot spares... 40TB usable space... 144gb of ram and a pretty decent chunk of processing power too... all for about $23,000 + tax and shipping... *drool*
