Alright, so I have been waiting since the summer to finally update my mobo, and I feel conditions are perfect right now for me to upgrade since the i5 CPUs and MBs are getting cheaper and the HD5770 came out.
__________________![]() However, the only issue that is stopping me from upgrading is the apparent "socket burn" problem plaguing P55 mobos with Foxconn socket. My question is whether I should just take the plunge and upgrade my system or whether I should wait for (hopefully) any future motherboard revisions? The board I'm eyeing right now is the Gigabyte P55-UD3R. Are there any other motherboard options that use alternate sockets? If I plan to overclock my i5 750 to around 3.6-3.7 ghz, should I be worried about the socket burn problem? Thanks!

I have Lotes socket so I don't have to worry about it. It was the Foxconn sockets creating the burn. For mobos I'd also look at ASUS or MSI. ![]() The MSI P55 GD80 I have in my rig is amazing.

The MSI P55-GD65 is also a great choice, I run an i5-750 clocked at 4.0 GHz and it's not a problem for this board also. Runs cool, fast, and great! Socket burn problem will only affect extreme DICE and LN2 overclockers.

Wouldnt really consider it a "plauge" either, that would suggest MANY people have been affected.

I really think the problem is being blown out of proportion. Yes it should never occur in the first place, but to actually achieve that result takes some effort

you will start to see revisions of higher end motherboards with different sockets in the next month or two (gigabyte has already started revising theirs) and msi used lotes sockets to begin with.
with that said, i don't think your going to have much of a problem with the reasonable 3.6-3.7 clock you mentioned, i don't think anyone under the 4.0ghz/1.4v level has been affected. or you could do what I'm doing, I'm going to wait for a few weeks to see how it pans out, i canceled my order when this issue surfaced, but when the new revisions come out ill reorder
