Default Whats going on?

I've tested numerous graphics cards on my board and each time I would hear capacitor squealing. I've tried to narrow it down but now assume its coming from the pcie capacitors and not the gfx. Anyone know what in the world is going on? I've heard too many bad stories of people having more problems with refurbished boards for rma advance replacement. Could someone give me some advice? Thanks!

Has the squealing been there from day one or did it start awhile after the build was finished? Im also assuming the noise is simply annoying and not a symptom of noticable problems ingame?

That aside, Asus has a good overall RMA experience, although the is comunication and tracking process is crap sometimes, all the asus rma experiences i read on the web end up with the customer getting a satisfactory replacment.

Well yes, it's been there from day one. I did not think too much about it until later on when the issue continued with a different card. As you said, it is simply annoying and I am not seeing any symptoms of noticeable problems. Although, the sounds are probably not a good sign and that would suck if something died later on. At this point I am willing to try anything out to see if I can correct the problem on my own first

Well if its any consolation, my first build (Q6700, 780i mobo, and 2 x 8800GTs in sli) had the same squealing sounds sometimes. I had that build for 2 years and nothing ever broke or degrated

The only fix i can think of is to somehow limit the maximum framerate the card is allowed to render (not sure how you can do this though). For me, the squealing only happened during loading/menu screens, when the framerate was over 1000fps.

I've also heard of computer shops being able to repair bursted/damaged capacitors, but at that point you're better off RMAing it.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. The card only buzzes when its beening stressed like on a video game. I'm still debating the rma. Im afraid something worse might happen like a fried cpu lol!

Lol if you can start windows up and prime95 then your cpu is fine. The only way to fry a cpu nowadays is to overvolt it like crazy or take the heatsink off and let it overheat.

Is the buzzing happening all the time in every game? or only in specific spots or certain games?

sounds like a psu problem to me if its powerful enough then it could have a fault
when under stress.
can you try another psu to eliminate the one your using now?

Sounds like capacitor squeal from one of the caps on your video card. If it is the only issue then you don't have anything to worry about except for the annoying sound.

My 9800GTX squeals when I'm crunching certain work units. I wouldn't say it is normal but it is not abnormal either, if that makes any sense.

EDIT: Sorry just re-read the OP and I see you've tried several different cards and still have the same problem. Probably a cap on the mb, like you said. Don't know if you can RMA for that or not. Call and ask.

If RMA is not an option CL3P20 could probably replace the offending caps for you.

Read my entire post.

You even quoted the part where I said:
