Default X58: Gigabyte or EVGA?

Since EVGA is a magnific manufacturer, and Gigabyte is lately going even better and better, and they just broke the FSB world record;ç

On a X58 board, you'd choose an EVGA or a Gigabyte? I mean, not only what's the best (Classified?) but also what's better on price/performance. On a real-world build, for short.

Not like I'm going to update my system, but to build a new i7 to a friend. I need to know

I have a UD4P and am switching to a Classified. I am satisfied with the UD4P as it is a no nonsense motherboard, all the features you need, a little extra, but nothing superfluous. This is a great board that will bring any chip into 4.0 GHz.

I wanted more though. More overclocking potential, better for multi GPU setups etc. This is Classified territory. This is where I am headed. Looking to do another GTX 295 if prices drop, or go to GT300 when it's released, and if it's priced right.

...is 4,0Ghz HT on limited by your board? Or by your chip temps?

Also, we'll have to see if GT300 is bottlenecked by X8 Multi GPU.

If you go with either board I'm sure you will be more than satisfied. Both companies have very good reputations. EVGA is widely known for their Top-Notch GPUs. And Gigabyte makes amazing motherboards.

I'd go with the cheaper board, which ever that one is.

I'm on water, HK 3.0 RX480 with Gentle Typhoon AP-15s. This is a CPU only loop currently, so I am not temp limited. I actually get awesome load temps. I have stability issues due to the board though, mostly thanks to the ram actually. I could push higher with less ram, but I actually use it all so I leave it in. The Classifieds have better power delivery and a better slot layout for SLI. These are my reasons for moving.

BlackHoleSun if you get your classy, can you post if you can push your CPU further with 12G of RAM? I am looking for a board that can handle 12G of RAM and if classy can do it better then Gigabyte I probably would go for it (if nothing else it would be a great excuse to get nice looking but overpriced board)

Well I'll let you know. Everything points to better overclocking, more stable voltage with PWM and low inductance cermaic caps, 300% more gold in the socket for better conductance, and a more feature rich BIOS.

I honestly can't wait to try it out, and maybe the key is watercooling the chipset to get better ram performance.

Well I got my classy up and running last night so today was overclock day. I got it stable at 4.2 GHz with ram at 1612. This board is the most amazing board ever! For the high end overclocker this board seems to have everything and lacks nothing. I've got all 12GB my ram slightly over the rated speed and the processor running at 4.2 GHz, this to me is amazing. I can honestly say that EVGA has me sold on anything now.

Off topic, all of my friends think that I should start labeling all of my things with 300% more gold like EVGA does. Just imagine if Billy Mays were still alive, he would try selling you Mighty Putty now with 300% more gold!
