Safe Surface for a temp benching station

I need to take everything out of my case to isolate where the sqeualing capacitor is for the pci express portion of the board. What would be a safe surface to put it on. I don't want to damage anything under the board.

Yep, a cardboard box would do.
Anything that's not metal, pretty much. I've done it on my desk, an anti-static bag, etc.
