Default Upgrade from EP45-UD3LR to EP45-UD3P?

I'm more interested in overclocking ability; the second PCI-E slot is a non-factor and I would only get it for convenience.

In your honest opinion, is there any OC performance gain to be had for trading in my UD3LR to a UD3P?

Thanks for the help!

The UD3P has amazing OC abilities. Have you checked out our thread yet?

Seeing as how you already have 4.0Ghz I wouldn't worry about it unless you can get a killer deal on the UD3P or you start getting into the higher end cooling to push your chip higher than what it is. Personally I'd vote against it - but that's just me

You could try just upgrading to the UD3R. Same OC capabilities. No point in doing UD3P Unless you're going to go for crossfire or a dedicated physx card.

UD3R = same board with one PCIe slot. So yes, he's got a point

I'll let you take my UD3R off my hands so I can snag myself a UD3P if'n you want

I think I'd rather go UD3P if I do upgrade for a PhysX card

My major question though is if there is a big difference between the UD3LR and UD3P, as both have the 2oz copper ground layer (which is usually what's cited as the biggest factor).

Is there anything the UD3P has that would make it a better OCer?

Meh. PhysX cards aren't entirely necessary. You could install PhysX drivers for your GTX 260 and be golden. That's what I've done on my 9800 GT

But umm... Ya. Not much I can think of that'd be huge and life altering between the two boards. Mayhaps the UD3P has deeper BIOS options for overclocking? To Google!!!

EDIT

UD3LR specs list from Gigabyte's site:
  1. Revolution energy saving design with DES Advanced featuring hardware based Dynamic 4-Gear switching
  2. Supports 45nm Intel Core 2 multi-core processors with FSB 1600 MHz
  3. Dual channel DDR2 1366+ for remarkable system performance
  4. Ultimate graphics performance with PCI-E x16 interface
  5. Features high speed Gigabit Ethernet connection
  6. Features SATA 3Gb/s with RAID function
  7. Patented DualBIOS with dual hardware BIOS protection
  8. Home theater quality 8-channel High Definition Audio

UD3P:
  1. Ultra Durable 3 technology with 2 oz copper PCB for 50°C cooler working temperature
  2. Revolution energy saving design with DES Advanced featuring hardware based Dynamic 6-Gear switching
  3. Supports 45nm Intel® Core 2™ multi-core processors with FSB 1600 MHz
  4. Natively support to dual channel DDR2 1366+* for remarkable system performance
  5. 2 PCI-E 2.0 x16 graphic interface with CrossFireX support for ultimate graphics performance
  6. Built-in TPM chip with 2048bits encryption to highest level digital data protection
  7. 2 Gigabit Ethernet LAN with Teaming functionality
  8. 100% 50,000 hour lifespan Japanese solid capacitors design
  9. DualBIOS solution gives a multiple security to the system
  10. Hardware Overvoltage Control IC Provides more voltage control options on CPU, North bridge and memory
  11. Supports Dolby Home Theater® audio to create a stunning surround sound listening experience.
  12. Blu-ray playback outputs supported by high quality 106dB SNR ALC889A HD audio

So it's got a tad bit more

Going from UD3LR to UD3P, I would not call this an upgrade at all. Total waste of money.
