New build help please.
Ok. New to building. I'm going to go with maybe an open box motherboard off newegg, in case they dont giv me a sheild, and i have to buy one elsewhere and wait while they ship it, can i install it with no IO sheild until it gets here?

define for me what exactly the IO shield does. does is perform any function other than adding to the visual appeal of the back panel?

it completes the rf/emi shielding for the computer... it can also affect airflow, good or bad depending... you don't normally *need* it
