This thread is addressing a couple of problems I'm having with my motherboard so bare with me.
A couple of weeks ago, my motherboard had a short for the 2nd time in a year. No big deal. Intel support said it isn't uncommon and to just send the board back to them for a replacement. It got there, they inspected, and evidently there were cracks all over the mobo from the shipping, despite the fact that I packaged it really well, so evidently it was a problem with UPS handling it too rough. Now Intel won't replace the board unless I pay for it. Understandable but a pain in the butt nonetheless. I insured my board for $100 with UPS so hopefully they'll fulfill this; Intel priced a replacement @ $65. So this brings me to my issue. I was recently looking into overclocking my Q6600 and I read that Intel motherboards aren't typically the best for OC'ing. I'm not sure if that's completely true, let me know if this is wrong. If it is true, should I just consider dumping my current Intel board, filing a claim with UPS, and getting a new mobo since I'd like to do some overclocking? Thanks Edit: has anyone ever filed an insurance claim with UPS for something like this? Are they easy to deal with? Double edit: If I do end up buying a better mobo, do I need to change anything else? Memory, CPU cooler, or whatever?

Hell yes. Get rid of that thing quick and go get a Gigabyte P45 board.

Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, widely considered the best OCer for C2Qs around. Although, with that Q6600 you'll be able to bring it to it's knees (on air) with a X48 easy.

If you don't care about CF or SLI at all you can get the UD3R for less than $120 shipped from Provantage

OP, if you are not going to RAID, you can get the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L for $85 at newegg w/free shipping (or $74.99 with $10 MIR). It offers the same OCing potential as the UD3R and UD3P, but only has ICH10 (not the 10R) and no crossfire. I have seen this board push quads over 505 FSB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...P6A-_-13128372
