For my HP(Celeron D325, 512MB PC3200,Intigrated graphics)
I am getting a new Power Supply and Motherboard so I can OC, And to the person that said most people start out with OEM PC's you are totaly right. I bet most of the people with rigs started out with mom and dads celeron, got angry at how slow it is, then saved and built your own.

Would like to keep cost reasonable (not cheap). I also want to Know if Rambus Ram is restricting to what my choices are.
I would get an Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, DFI, mobos. Rambus Ram is well not much of it around here? look aroun at the mobos that overclock the best from members that build machines just to overclock and then decide if you want to dedicate a full time investment to overclocking. Many members build to game and overclock as a sideline others dedicate there machines for game, overclock, modding its your choice and there is a wealth of information at your disposal. Enjoy (I'm partial to ASUS) Still #1

(okay, maybe I'm over exaggerating, but it does get asked rather frequently, and the answer never changes. )

So, here it is, the definitive answer to "Can I overclock my Intel mobo/dell/hp/compaq....?"

Short answer: no. Intel motherboards (which are used by all proprietary system builders, like dell, HP, etc) do not offer the necessary functions for BIOS overclocking. Without such options as CPU and RAM voltage adjustments, FSB adjustability and AGP/PCI bus locks, you will have little to no success.

Long answer: yes....via software. Software like clockgen (www.cpuid.com), cpusoft (now defunct, along with others), or other software utilities (included with motherboards that are intended for use by enthusiasts) may or may not support your Intel/proprietary motherboard, and is generally not very effective.

These are the facts, folks, I'm sorry to say. Hey, if you've successfully overclocked via software, then by all means, please post results as well as make, model, all pertinent system info and software used. At the very least, if some have had success, we can start compiling some information, for those who have not yet had success.
Not sure but I have been able to OC my HP. The BIOS even has an option to change the multiplier (10-20) but of course it's locked at 17 for my CPU.

Check my profile for mobo specs. I dunno, this PC was handed to me, no mods or anything. A while ago I was messing around and I fried the motherboard, (or so the PC shop told me I did, I have a feeling the CMOS just needed resetting). They installed the same board and gave me the old one too. Foxconn. I've got many questions about it but I'll save em for the other forums.

I'm very new to this and have been lurking for a while. Anyhow, I've got a question but that goes in another forum....

OK, well I just realized that my overclocking has been done software side...I think. There is an option in BIOS to go to safe, normal, fast, turbo, and ultra. Everest reads a very very small overclock when set to turbo.
There is a program called Super Step that came with the FoxConn's installation CD. I managed to get FSB up to about 110, fairly stable. So in my specs, that overclock is at ok temps, but not all that stable. I should change it.

What can I say I'm new.

Hi
I got a HP Pavilion M 7450.dk with a Asus P5LP-LE motherboard.
Does anyone know if i can overclock it with software?
Does it use the same clockgen as some other boards?

You can overclock any OEM pc with this equipment.
1. A sledge hammer
2. a 5 story or more building
3. replacement parts for the good ones you scrapped
4. have fun
