Alright I tried CPUFSB and I went from 3.00GHz to 3.218GHz (No heat increase! 31C), and I can probably get up to 3.3GHz

Specs:
Intel 530 Prescott 3.00GHz HT
Kingston VALUE ram 2x 512 (200mhz)
OCZ Premier 2x 512 (400mhz) ( I know, bad mix, but the OCZ ram was cheaper than getting more kingston value ram, so I decided to get the OCZ ram)
ATi X850XT 256mb
Intel D915GAG Motherboard

PLL: ICS 954103

I'm not sure about a hacked BIOS for an OEM board, heard horror stories.
This site has a hacked Bios for my Asrock board that I used(navigate to the Downloads section) Google translator is messin with me.
It unlocked my RAM divider which was locked at 3:2, now I have 1:1 and 5:4.
You might poke around there and see what you find.

The Intel Badaxe and Badaxe2 can be overclocked. As for Dell, I consider them to be good value as mainstream non enthusiast computers. My wife uses a Dell which silently and reliably does everything she wants of it. I have little sympathy with self proclaimed experts who try to impress by knocking low end or proprietry systems. In my view this is unnecessary and unwarranted snobbery. I happen not to be interested line dancing but I feel no need to mock or denigrate those who do.

Yeah, but if you can get a cheap build for low end from dell go ahead.
I'm just sure you can do cheaper self-built...

What a great post. Well said leporello, well said.

OK so i bought an OEM PC (Acer) recently. Middle of the range gear really, basic home/personal type use (ironic home use seems to be the most hardware intensive lol). Its an i946gz/ICH7 chipset based Acer mobo.

Read about cpuFSB and popped the case open to find the PLL. Found it (ICS), but doesnt appear in cpuFSB. Bit of trial and error and found an ICS profile that lets me increase the FSB from 200 to 210, resulting in a CPU speed of just under 3.2ghz... up from 3.0ghz. Being OEM gear, the multiplier is locked at 15.

Still on standard cooling and its a Pent D so heat is already present.... so not looking to push 3.6 anytime soon... But hey, find me one member on Overclockers.net that is going to say no to an extra 5% speed from their CPU!!

Moral of the story? Dunno. Give it a shot i suppose... but dont expect answers to be handed to you on a plate

everyone can overclock their intel mobo using clockgen, it doesn´t matter if you don´t know what´s your clock generator

1)make sure your ram is not at max speed, else it will freeze when oc
2)in clockgen tick the option (ignore pci-gsb) or something like that
3)start tryng the clock generators until one shows you your correct speed, and oc a little, if it freeze try another, if not keep going until you want

I am a noob in ocing... so can someone help i don't want to waste my E4300, i feel stupid. I also agree with the post saying everyone starts off with an pre-built computer.
