I actually had an arguement with my boss the other day at work. He thought that Compaq/HP/Dell were built by the same people at the same place..Little did he know I used to work for Compaq AND HP (after they bought Compaq). So I had to school him for a minute. When HP came in and we started building their systems nothing changed. They all use the same propietary parts, I will tell you though that they do make sure everyone wears ESD protection, to keep from frying the parts, BUT...I didn't agree with the kind of people they actually build these systems. It's indirectly the company's fault for poor quality systems, due to employing people through temporary agencies who have NO clue what they are doing. But directly it's the idiots on the assebly line who drop HDD's and STILL install them..I've seen some stuff that'd probably make you sick..so i won't go into details..LOL I admit, I bought a Dell..I was hard up for a computer due to going back to school and got a deal through my school, which is a technical school for Computer and Networking Certifications..So I know what Dingo is talking about (learned about the BNC's on the old nic's, cause I've took the class and have the books, still studying for the cert test though (really busy with work and all). My advice to anyone new to OC'ing, Upgrading, Building, or even just new to computers, learn as much as you can before doing ANYTHING! Ok that's enough rambling, just figured I'd share my thoughts on things...since i used to actually work for 2 outta the 3 brands people mostly buy. Good luck to you all!

I don't know if this is the right spot to post my results or not...but here goes!

Almost a year ago I ventured into the Intel world...getting myself a LGA775 board and Celeron D in the hopes of one day upgrading to a Conroe and overclocking the crap out of it. Well the board I had picked (bottom of the line ASUS MicroATX, forgot model number) had absolutely NO overclocking options at all in BIOS. It had DDR1 and AGP....no DDR2 and no PCIe. So it was quite a limited board. Well I had no choice but to use Clockgen to attempt an overclock on my Celeron D. I think I got some pretty decent results (see below). I got my Celeron D 352 from the stock 3.2GHz up to almost 4.5GHz, and it was stable! This is the only proof I can give since I sold this machine last year, but this just proves that where there's a will there's a way!

havent been here in a while but that dosent mean i havent been busy
due to my MSI motherboard biting the bullet i have had to use a dell for the past few months and its only blue screened twice unlike my MSI.
i got a gig of low latency ram to work on this dell optiplex gx270
right now im following traces on the dell mobo so i can put more volts on them
but that a story for another thread
2x 512mb DDR400 @ 2.5-3-3-7-1T
i can run 2.5-3-3-6 for a while but it gets buggy
i also run my 9800pro overclocked on this comp

You can search and try out ClockGen....but don't count on it being stable. The best way to OC is through the BIOS....if that isn't an option then 99% of the people here will say get a new mobo. You can give ClockGen a whirl...but don't expect much, also don't expect it to be stable very high. Never know though, you could get lucky like I did (see above just a few posts)......with my Celeron D 3.2 @ 4.5 stable with ClockGen. Doubtful, but you could get lucky like me, lol.

It's mostly better since most of you are amateurs as well. Id rather go prebuilt than one of you making me one.

Speak for yourself.

That is one of the single funniest posts I've ever read!

..... Coming from the guy who made this thread:

 you want to see amatuer? Go ask the guy working the production line at Dells computer plant about how to OC you mobo... chances are he doesn't even speak English, and if he does he don't know how to OC. It's mostly better........ I built a $1400.00 computer last year that blew the $2500 dell XPS gaming desktop out of the water in every benchmark... go talk smack elsewhere.
