Exclamation P4S800D-X problems

Hi,

This is really starting to annoy me.

I just built my second rig, nothing special, but its bugging me a lot.

All of these parts are brand new.

The rig has:

Socket 478 P4 3.0Ghz
P4S800D-X Motherboard
2x512mb DDR3200 (not dual channel), also have a 1gig stick, but I am leaving it out for now.
200Gig IDE hdd
Asus 6600 128mb DDR2
400w Power supply, cheap case, etc. etc..

When I put it all together, and start it up. All I get out of it is beeping. I reset the computer and it starts up fine, then halts me at POST saying "Overclocking Failed, Press F1 to reconfigure BIOS, Press F2 to reset to defaults and continue" If I press F2 I can get into windows fine. But once I shut my computer off, and try to turn it back on again I get the same beeping, then I have to reset the computer, go through the overclocking failure message...

I have changed the CMOS Battery with a new one, tried resetting the jumper pin, tried different RAM configurations, tried new gfx cards, and I also updated the BIOS with the newest one available.

I am just wondering if anyone has had the same problem, or has any idea how to fix this... Because it is very annoying to have this happen every time I reset.

Thanks ahead,

James

oh, by the way. I have never overclocked this thing yet. So the error doesn't make any sense....

Go into the BIOS and check all settings. If there is a 'Turbo' setting, set it to 'disabled'.

If that does not work, or you don't have a 'Turbo' setting, try setting any OC related entries to a manual option, and not auto. If on manual, just set all parameters to stock (FSB = 200, etc)

Hope that'll help

Ugh, still not working. Tried manual settings for FSB, Ram timings, etc.

And I didn't find anything about a turbo/boost mode

thanks though

Crap.. silly motherboard.. LOL

Try to remove all hardware... CPU,RAM, anything. Then reset CMOS (remove battery, power cord, and move jumper, toggle PSU switch a few times to be sure any remaining current is released).

Then, re-install the whole thing...and see what happens.

This is odd

It's not a Beta BIOS is it?

I have the same motherboard and processor as yours and i gives me the same problem. Sometimes when I start my PC it says o/c failed. Then I tried to remove one RAM, so that only one RAM stays on the mobo. It works. Then a few hours later i put back both the RAMs and it works againg
I know this sounds bizarre but hey !
It could be helpful...
