Default Laptop Cooling, maybe Videocard+Ram too?

So here's what I've been thinking. I have a p3 1.2ghz lappy, and I've been contemplating a couple things, maybe play a low level game.

1-Maybe a new video card, even if its 128mb would be good for something of little load.

2-512 or more ram, easy upgrade

3-Cooler, now this is confusing. Is it really worth it? Do they work? Any experience with them?

What kind of laptop? Do you know the new GPU will fit? Most lappys can’t upgrade the GPU except a few, mainly the DTR’s and I don’t know of a DTR with a P3. Also how hot does it get now? Adding a better GPU might heat up more then now.

That just what id consider.

Well its a dellc610. My cousin has the same model with a different videocard, got me thinking...after about an hour and a half of websurfing and MSN usually heats up to about 45c while on my lap.

I did not know there where GPU-upgradable notebooks. More RAM is always a plus, so go for it. As for laptop cooling, you're better off constructing some sort of stand-offs so air can circulate at the bottom (where the vents are usually located). I have the Vantec Lapcool4 for my laptop and the biggest temp. drop I have seen is 5*C. Maybe worth it if your laptop gets really hot (65*C+).

laptops, unless high quality >$2000, dont have removable GFX cards and for aftermaket cooling the ones i've seen make a 5-10 dege diff from stock and besides that the laptop pros and gfx cores are made to run at high teps for long pirods of time.

the best would be a 7500rpm harddive and the most and tightest ram that laptop can run(i got a 1000 point bost in 3dmak 01 with new hdd and 2000 more with 1 gig dual channel ram)

I used to own a Dell Inspiron 5150 with a Go 5200 FX card and a 3.06 P4. I bought a laptop cooler and it worked quite well, keeping the notebook barely warm. Before the cooler was purchased, the laptop ran quite hot. It was definitely a noticeable difference.

About the laptop cooling device. I currently have a laptop that has a T2500 (yonah) at 2.0 that I keep folding 24/7. Under it I have a targus chill mat...

http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=PA248U

The temps @ full load (two instances of F@H) run about 62c without the chill mat. With the chill mat they run around 54c. IMHO an 8 degree difference is well worth the 19 I payed for the chill mat. That and the fact that without it, whenever I set the laptop on my lap I almost get 2nd degree burns .

I would skip the high speed HDD. Not only will it eat up the battery but generate more heat and noise. I would go for a 5400rpm drive with the biggest cache possible.
