Default Is a Dell XPS M1530 Sufficient Gaming?

This is what I came up with...

As for RAM, I`ll be buying my own 2x1GB.

My question is how well will this be able to run today`s games and is the T7500 for +$150 worth it?

I hope this puppy will be on sale on boxing day. =D

That's pretty good. Definitely go for the T7500, and can you get a faster HDD?

It would probably be cheaper to get a 7200 spin ATA hard drive from newegg then upgrading one through Dell!

That video card will play BF2 no problem. My friend has the same laptop and is able to play the game without issues.

not a bad deal at all, take a look at the ASUS G1 or the F1 series, they are suppose to compete against the XPS's.

G1 series has the 7950GTX sometimes, it's a much better card than the 8600M GT, but if you're only playing BF2, the card you have selected is fine.

I completely agree with everyone's suggestions, but ericeod, if you bought a 7200RPM HDD separately, then you would need to buy the OS again too, right? Also, I noticed, Tofu-Boi, that you are making your Firefox (rock on) look like IE7. Nice.

Would that T7500 improve gaming performance? I`ve read that even a T5250 wouldn`t bottle neck a 8600M GT.

I forgot to mention that I`ll be only using this laptop for school, as a HTPC, and some light gaming(WoW, CS:S, TF2, and Aion in the future, not BF2 though :P).

Thanks for the quick replies!

edit: just took a look at the G1 and F1 ASUS notebooks... they are out of budget... about >$1300

Well I recommended the T7500 more to be future proof than anything else, as well as being ready for any CPU intensive games you might buy in the future. Unlike desktops, you are basically stuck with the proc. you get in a laptop, so might as well add $150 to get a laptop that'll last you a couple more years. But, on the other hand, the games on your list don't require a blazing fast system, so you should be fine for the time being with the system you listed above. It all comes down to saving money vs being future proof. I don't think that system you listed will have any trouble running those games.

I dont know about Vista, but the Dell XP OS disks will install on any Dell system. If the laptop doesnt come with an OS DVD, you should be able to create a system recovery DVD that will install on the new hard drive. The motherboard has the tatoo mark allowing the OEM OS to install without activation.

Dell will provide you with a physical DVD OS disk ofr something like $19 if I'm not mistaken.

I did exactly this with my Dell laptop I purchased a little over a year ago. I ended up buying a new hard drive and reloading the OS with the Dell XP disk.

NOOOOOO!!!

Price out a Vostro first!!!

They are cheaper, and you get the same thing minus some bling.

I priced out a similar model with 3 years of warranty for ~$1,000 a few weeks ago.

I did a comparison, a Vostro and exactly the same Inspiron came out to $900 Vostro, and $1,200 Inspiron.
