If you can get the gateway for $1250 it would be a much better buy. You get the same resulution screen, but a better video card, 1GB more ram, option for a second HDD, bluetooth, HDMI, E-SATA and the new Intel Wireless N adapters that's up to 300mbps.

As for the stock cpu it comes with there is no overclocking in the bios for it. I used overclocking by unlocked multipliers to overclock. The speakers are pretty decent as well but I'm using a external sound card to connect my 5.1 surround sound.

My battery life at 3 ghz is 1:30 hours on high performance and 2:30 hours on power saver

thanks for clearing that up.

Now would i have trouble getting 4gb and vista ultimate 64 bit working on this notebook?

How about XP Home and Pro?

Would i be able to get the drivers all up and running?

And what if i get the P-171S instead (with the upgraded processor and fingerprint reader), would that change anything?

Sorry for all these questions, i just figured i'd ask them here instead of making a new thread.

I'm running with 4GB but in vista X86. It's a easy process replacing the ram and the drivers can be found on intels website since it's a intel 965 chipset.

If you can get the bestbuy Deal I would rather go for it and then get a better cpu. The upgraded cpu in the P-171S isn't much of an improvement cuz it still has only the 2mb cache. In laptops especially at lower speeds the cache plays a huge role in performance

Yea man i might go for the 171s because of the slot load drive, the fingerprint reader, the cam and the processor. I heard if you chat with the reps on the site they give up to 20% discounts including the 3 year warranty!

And how about raid? What kinds does it support and what kind of HDD should i get for it? Is it SATA -150?

How about memory, should i buy 2 sticks of 1gb ddr2 800 to make it 4gb or should i just stick with 667?

(P.S. can you recommend me a pair of ram sticks and a HDD )

Gateway® P-171S comes with a intel® Pentium® Dual Core Processor T2330 standard!!!

This is a 478 pin Socket P processor!!!
That means later on you should be able upgrade the proc with a 667fsb proc such as T7800 etc.!!

Though Mobile Intel® GL960 Express Chipset is limited to 533 MHz system bus!!(Officially!!!) but it can easily run 667 fsb !!

More info - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=212097

And here's some discussion about T2330 upgradeability - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=206202 (confusing!! , lol!)

Also gateway p-171s has integrated Intel graphics solution - X3100 so it wouldn't be able to run games!!

Also, there is no point in buying DDR2 800MHz RAM, as the chipset will only run it at 667Mhz!!! Since that's the max the chipset can support!!! also because its a non santa rosa platform!! as the santa rosa platform(intel PM965) supports both 800mhz FSB procs nd RAM!!!

Hope this helps

Thanks for answering the ram and sata questions. Now for the HDD im planning on sticking to the 250HDD thats already in there and getting another one for RAID. Im just not sure what types of raid this will support.
