Default Wifey needs a lappy.....

OK me and the wife officially decided to get her a laptop to browse the web and write on, since she hates my MS Ergo 4000 keyboard and the big rig in general.....

Here are the requirements:

Dual Core
1gb of RAM
DVD/CD burner
802.11 b/g
Great Warranty
Under $750

My initial instinct for her was to just get her a Dell. I can get this one for 10% off since I work at Walmart.

That looks a sweet machine at that price. I would recommend Dell, i've had mine 18 months and its been a brilliant machine, if you are going to use the battery a lot, i'd suggest the 9 cell, it will give about 4 hours when new, (mine still giving over 3!)

I'd take a look at the Dell Vostro line. I have the Vostro 1400 which I absolutely love.

For $700 you can get the 14.1" Vostro 1400 with a 1.4ghz C2D (its perfect for web surfing), 2GB RAM, 250GB Hard Drive, DVD Burner, Wireless-N card, and an integrated 2MP Webcam, all with a 2-year warranty.

Or for $549 you can get the nearly identical 15.4", but it just has a 160GB Hard drive, and no webcam.

I can say from personal experience, they are very well-built notebooks, and mine has taken tons of abuse so far.

Newegg has some pretty good laptop deals too. Check it out.

BTW I would be willing to sell my laptop which surpasses your required specs by a lot and I would sell it for cheaper than $750 because of no warranty. P.M. me if interested!

Dude. Although it is a bit on the large side (17" screen), I bought my wife this ACER about a month ago and she simply loves it. It is not a gaming machine, but after doing research for weeks I got this and it is probably the fastest and nicest laptop I have ever used. (I work in a PC repair shop so I see a lot of them) I would recommend it to anybody in a heartbeat.

EDIT: I just realized it is now it is a "deactivated item". Why the hell would they do that to such a beautiful piece of equipment???

Check this much better deal out on a Toshiba Core 2 duo T5550 (1.8ghz) lappy for $650 at Circuit City:

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Toshi...oductDetail.do

I was about to get my wife one at Office Depot based on a dual core T2370 CPU but then realized it's not a core 2 duo (watch out for the naming conventions here as they are very mis-leading!!).

I ended up getting the Toshiba at CC for her last weekend and she loves it. Its got all the goods your wife will probably need....but of course you will need to remove some of the installed bloatware which is easily done. I already have it overclocked to 4.0ghz!!!! - Just kidding!!!

I think I got an awesome deal but let me know what you guys think as I am a desktop gaming guy not a lapmaster!

Dude I love the price, but Toshiba kinda scares me. We have a relative that had to send in her Toshiba lappy twice now in less then 3 months. The damn thing keeps on overheating and they will not address the issue that the fan is dead. It doesnt even spool up!

So for me:
Toshiba =
