i work in a diesel shop at a garbage company this summer. my dad is the supervisor and he needs a new laptop BADLY. this will stay at his desk 85% of the time. the rest of the time it needs to be taken out to a truck to run diagnostics on these new muffler systems we have.
__________________what is his best bet as far as bang for the buck? no need for great graphics at all. just simple speed and HDD space doesnt really matter either. screen size and battery life are also low on the list since it stays plugged in at his desk.

This one has a good screen size... Maybe a bit more graphics than your lookin' for. But great deal all around.

I don't think you need to spend so much money on a laptop if it's for that reason. I would look into
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834146442 or the Dell 1525 They both have nice HDD's and they are relativly light so i think i would choose one of those but the Lenovo is the best deal of the two Or he might look into the Lenovo T61's they are extremly well constructed with magnesium alloy much better than the Idea Pads

A nice Vostro would probably work well. They're tough and fairly well built.
