Default Laptop Without Hard Drive Suggestions.

I recently received a Toshiba Satellite 1955-S805 from a friend. It had no HDD, I picked one up only to discover that he lost the HDD adapter for the laptop.
I also discovered that this particular piece costs around 35 bucks from shady dealers on the web. I have decided that since I have only really wanted a laptop for web surfing and email, that I would just run a live disc of linux such as DSL or pendrivelinux. Issue is that both of those are a pain to get your wifi cards working on(doesn't help that I am bash retarded). So, I have also found a program that compiles an XP live disc from an XP disc you already have. I just compiled and burned it up. I am about to try it out to see if it is simpler to get the wifi setup. Anyone have any other suggestions or ideas?

It shouldnt be too much of an issue. Is it a built in wireless card. Then it might be a little more difficult depending on age and driver support. Linux is probably the way to go if you can get the wireless working.

Ubuntu 8.04 seems to have pretty good driver support.
It's definitely worth a shot.

yup ndiswrapper pendrivelink has it, so all you have to do is find the windows drivers for the wifi, and itll run the wifi card using those thats what i been doing, since my HD died and my new 1 hasnt came in yet.

Yeah, actually I got that to work really easily in pendrivelinux, but for some reason it couldn't snag an IP address from my router. I had the WEP key right and it was allowed on MAC filtering. Just wouldn't give it an IP.
