the gateway fx has major bang for your buck. you can get alot with 2 grand pretty much anywhere. i chose gateway because of the 8800m gts, which most other laptops dont have. even the alienwares in my price range didnt have that.

Sorry, I just had to get that outta the way before someone else said it. I apologize, and deeply sorry if anyone on here lost a loved one.

Try this for $899, it's 500 off so it's a great buy.

With that kind of cash you can pick up a really nice lappy. But since it's for school, I dont see the need to spend that much. I recently bought a HP dv2807nr , slapped ubuntu on there and it runs excellent! If you wish to buy one for that much the Gateway FX is a good way to go, so is a Toshiba Satellite, or an HPcompaq. There are many to choose from obviously, choose well . May I also suggest you upgrade to at least a 12cell battery for longer battery life.

I was thinking of buying one of these:http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1204332501169 and upgrading the CPU to a T9300 but would it better to get retail so I can get a good warranty and accidental damage protection
