I have a laptop (HP Pavillion DX6000 series) and it says one of my hard drives is bad, and to back up, and to press F1 to continue. It stops there, can't do anything. I can clearly hear a hard drive spool up and work, then it goes to this menu.
There is a lot of valuable data on here, and it's a SATA HDD I think, but don't know how to hook it up to get data off of it. Thanks! ![]()

does it boot up at all? if the hdd is sata, then just pull it out and plug it in to your desktop and you can read all the data off it. then try a chkdsk or something like that

I doesn't boot at all, it starts up, then like 5 seconds after is shows toshiba it goes to the back screen with white letters, saying to back up my data, a HDD is bad, press F1 to continue.
The problem is power, should a normal HDD power connector work for a laptop HDD?

awesome, the thing slides off from the laptop HDD and it's a normal SATA and power connector.
Thanks so much though! ![]()

yeah, thats is a good thing about sata drives, they all use the same connectors. hopefully you get what you need off the drive.
