Default Can i upgrade my VGA?

I currently Have a 7900 GS. My brother has a inspiron 1520 and has ordered a new 8800m gtx. Can I put his 8600m gt in my computer? I have the pci express 16x. Im not a risk taker like him. I want to be sure before I open and start putting stuff in and risk blowing up my laptop.

Here are my specs
Inspiron E1705

T2400 1.83ghz 667fsb

2gbs 776

7900gs

60gb hdd 5200 rpm

Dell Inspiron 1520 cannot be upgraded with a 8800m GTX!!

but Inspiron 1520 can be upgraded with a new GPU!!
Show this link to ur bro! - http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/c...chassisid=8451

it can only be upgraded till 8600m GT!! not with a 8800m GTX

More info - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=219198

For ur bro -
http://support.dell.com/support/edoc....htm#wp1179839

DELL mostly use proprietary 'DELL' slot for the gpus in notebooks which can be upgraded! so he cant just buy a card frm newhere!!
The gpu has to be dell specific!

------------------------------------------

The PCI Express x16"slot" u r talking about is actually the interface type(bandwidth) b/w the gpu and motherboard!!

Anyways, as far as ur notebook goes! its possible to upgrade the gpu!!

more info - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=105164

http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...ideo+Card+1520

Here's a guide on how to Upgrade the GPU!! - http://www.legitreviews.com/article/349/1/

however u will have to check with dell whether your e1705 will support 8600m GT or not!

BTW u should check out - http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/D...en&s=dhs&cs=19 to find out what upgrades are compatible with ur e1705!!

Hope this helps!
