Default Thinkpad R50e hangs on boot (no screen images)

Hi there,

Heres the status. When I press the power on button (with or with out a battery installed) with the charger connected the laptops LEDs light up across the board (as they should). The next second it will hang at a solitary power on light or a power on light + plus battery light (if the battery is installed). That is how it will remain. I never get any images on the screen. I dont even get to the IBM splash screen. A few months ago liquid was spilled on the keyboard and I assume some seeped down, but the motherboard is not dead. The hs&f unit spins, the keyboard responds, the motherboard reports having power...just nothing else after this.

Thanks Id really appreciate yourself. I desperately want to get this running again.

Btw, I have reseated the RAM and I have took out the bios battery for a few seconds and put back in. Neither did anything noticeable to help the problem.

You say the motherboard is not dead, although the way the computer acts thats exactly what I would say the problem is. It could be possible that what ever supplies power to the fans and other components is still good while the rest of the board is actually bad. The only other thing I would know to check would be the hard drive, unfrotunately I don't see why that could cause the computer not to post. If the hard drive were the problem it would post and say no hard drive, or no bootable partition. Another thing you could try before going out and buying a whole new board, try replacing the ram all together, I have had a bad ram chip cause a crap alienware computer to not post. Otherwise the motherboard is probably bad.
