Default Should I get a Macbook

Hi, I can get a 3 day old 2.4Ghz, 2GB ram Macbook for $1200AU (Retail $1800AU)
I have heard that the new models are coming out very soon. Should I get one? as I would rather pay the extra bit more for the latest model if one was to come out

waiting for the next gen apple products can be like waiting for pigs to fly at times

the best way of thinking about it is simple, if you need it then buy it.

http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/macbook#MacBook link shows how long the average hardware update is, and well at the moment it could be for another 70 odd days.

macbooks are great (own one :P ) and to be honest they hardly change at updates, my friend has one of the latest (about 2 months old) and to be honest there is no difference in performance compared to my now 13 month old one

About a month after I got mine, they upgraded the model. Which was a pain!

Having had mine now for about a year, it's pretty good. It overheats very easily but they may have sorted this out since the model I bought. Mine tops out at 81celcius.

I got tired of mac os x pretty quickly though. It's dead easy to use ( I have 10.4). You can do some stuff like video editing, manage media files etc. like a breeze. It also has it's weak points. Some of these prompted me to switch to linux on that machine. For example I do a lot of programming, I found linux to be a much better environment for this.

But I do have to say, they are great machines!

I would say wait for the new model, unless you need one in a hurry.

Thanks, I will have to think about it. I wouldnt mind so much if they just upped the specs a bit but I hear they are doing a whole redesign

I got a MacBook last year and I'm actually wishing I hadn't gotten it. You can't change anything on Macs. No BIOS at all. Plus, I've purchased a bunch of software that I have to use on the Mac now, so it wouldn't really be worth it to get rid of it now.

Agreed. My macbook overheats too much, even when I have one internet window open with one tab watching youtube it overheats, can be a pain at times. But I'd say wait.
