I have a Vista Sony Vaio VGN-FZ190. (Not my sig rig obviously)

There is a problem with the driver for the disk drive in the computer. This same problem occurred a few months ago and the only way I was able to resolve was to reformat the HD. Really don't want to have to reformat again is there any fix for this??

I have tried uninstall the drivers in both safe mode and regular mode, and then restart the computer but the same problem keeps coming up.

This is what it said in device manager under device status for both GV3129J MVD034J SCSI CdRom Device and PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K17 ATA Device.

Quote:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
I've seen that this is a common problem with compatibility issues but I can't find a true fix.

Rep+ if anyone can help me out!

EDIT: FIX ON POST 5

So you tried to update the drivers? Maybe try to roll back if you can?

Well, what were you doing before this happened? Or did it just come out of nowhere?

Wow, finally found a fix after many searches lol. Of course I would find it after making a post over here.

Anyways, here's the fix incase anyone else encounters this kind of a problem.

Then:

1.Click Start -> Run and type: REGEDIT , and hit enter. For Vista, type REGEDIT into the search box and double click to open it).
2. Navigate to –

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlCl ass{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

click on this and locate UpperFilters in the right-hand window, (if it exists) right click on this and select Delete and then OK.
3. Under the same Registry Key locate LowerFilters, (if it exists) right click on this and select Delete and then OK.
4. Quit Registry Editor and re-boot the computer, new registry values will be created that will hopefully cure the problem.

After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, you may possibly need to re-install your burning software if it doesn't work – but not usually.
