Default Connecting a lappy to a HDTV.

I am over to a friends house and we are having problems connecting his lappy to his new HDTV. We connected a VGA cable from the laptop to the HDTV in an attempt to use the TV as an external display. We changed the display properties on the laptop but the TV continues to say no device found. The TV is a Samsung 40" LCD 120HZ 650 series. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Same question and possible solution

Another solution:

You must identify the TV in the video card software. You can accesss the software through the control panel. there should be several settings for your monitor, and there is a setting to have your card identify the TV and test it. You won't get any out put to the TV till the card know what it is and what you want to do. Once the TV is identified you can choose to clone your desktop or just
Perhaps this will work:

Its for a sony laptop, but it "should" work for any laptop.

I had the same problem with my macbook pro and my samsung television; I had to finally just get a DVI-to-HDMI port.

^If that doesn't work then try setting the gfx on your laptop to 640x480 60hz before connecting. Your TV might not be able to scan certain resolutions but anything with a vga port should take 640x480

If that fixes anythingthen u can fool around to find the highest res thatll work
