Sorry, jumped on this thread late.
You can refuse services to anybody as long as it doesn't violate civil law (discrimination). Also keep in mind that you can't say anything you want if it hurts someone... slander laws: Free speech only goes so far, and mainly pertains to talking openly about government agencies. Some folks think this and threats are a negotiation tool to get you to lower your fees, throw in extras, etc. I tell them to take a hike and refund their money.

What I don't get is why he wrote a bad review before even getting his hands on the product... That makes no sense to me. What were you rating? Normally you do this after you've had a chance to use whatever it is you bought. He hasn't even identified the problem he had with the retailer. Is it something as silly as you picking a custom configuration and they weren't able to ship it out the same day, or they couldn't make the keyboard glow, or the cheap model you picked didn't have the latest tech? Who knows, the op hasn't said. There are two sides to every story.

They have the right to sell to whoever they want, so even though it leaves a bad impression, it's legal if you get your money back.

It's not slander unless what you said was untrue.

You are all right in that they can refuse service/sales to anyone, but in this case he had already PAID for the product and the sale was final.. They can't do what they did, even if they offer his money back.. They should have said they had an error and his product is out of stock, but they can not 'go back' on a sale made..

I had a local company do this to me with some A/V product.. When I told my lawyer he said that they could not do that once the money was exchanged.. I ended up getting what I had paid for.. This was near 10 years ago tho..

Happy to hear you got your product like you should have to begin with..

Could you do us all a favor and name the shop?

If they are willing to go that far, then I don't want to do any other business with them.

I want to know too. It's amazing to me that that was their excuse for not helping you.

Interesting... I had a bad experience with a computer company (CyberpowerPC), and I psoted on reseller ratings.com. Got a phonecall within 2 hours (as opposed to my previous attemps at contacting them to no avail) and they shipped the comp over right away. Seems like this company doesn't give a about their rep.

in business when you quote a price for something and it is accepted you are obligated to deliver on that even if it means you made a mistake figuring out your cost and lose money in the end. a deal's a deal

Yeah, but I am willing to bet that the OP agreed to their TOS before he made the purchase which most likely allow the company to cancel the order for any reason.

However the OP is getting the laptop.

Interesting point.. I wonder if it says that, and I really wonder if they can even do that.. That would mean that at any time after the sale they can cancel it and have 'presumably' several days or weeks to return your money.. Suck..
