Default Dual Monitor

I have a gateway T-6000 series laptop that I want to run dual monitors on, and I was wondering if this was possible without some type of adapter. There is a video port on the back of the laptop, but I don't know if this would only allow me to run an external monitor, instead of the laptop screen AND an external monitor.

If you are running windows:
1.) Right click on you windows desktop
2.) Click on "properties". This will bring up the "Display Properties" menu.
3.) Click on the "settings" tab.
4.) If you see two boxes (labeled 1 & 2, but the second box is grayed out.) then yes, your laptop supports dual monitors.

How to use both monitors at once if you are running windows:

1.) Select the grayed out box. (It will have a blue square around it if properly selected).
2.) At the bottom of the screen will be a little box you can check called "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor".

Note: If yours laptop supports dual monitors you can also configure it though the Nvidia controll pannel (if you have a Nvidia card), or through the Catalyst Control Center (if you have a ATi card).

P.S. Next time you have a question like this, it would help to name what type of video card you are using. That way i can give you more specific information.

Oh, and by the way, for the two boxes to appear on some computers the second monitor has to be plugged in first.

Concur. I got my Toshiba laptop working with two monitors. You may have to plug the second monitor in BEFORE turning the computer on for it to recognize it properly.
