Most of the pre-built laptops you find aren't going to be very good. They are usually mismatched, skimping on specs that the end user wouldn't immediately notice, such as battery life and resolution. In short they lack quality.

When it comes to laptops, OEMs like Dell and Lenovo are the equivalent to building your own PC, apposed to buying one from Best Buy.

Ooo! Lenovo W500s are much cheaper in the states than they are in Canada!

For $1150 (after coupon: USPSAVEMORENOW) you get a W500 (15")

-P8400
-2GB DDR3
-1650x1080 LCD
-FireGL V5700 (based on the 3650, but its a CAD card so it will perform like an 8800 Ultra in Maya )

You can upgrade it as you wish, although you're paying a premium to do so, but otherwise I'd say its a perfect choice. If you're doing any kind of 3d design it will leave the Macbooks(even the Macbook Pros) in the dust!

So guys, thanx for the suggestions and advice. I really took into consideration your opinions and I looked at the laptops you all suggested at Fry's and Micro Center. After going to Micro Center I decided to get this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834147922. It fit my budget, and even though I saw some of the other more expensive computers, up close this one looks great and it has great components for a great price! I ended up getting it at Micro Center for $1092.49, plus a fifty dollar mail in rebate and a bonus 2gb flash drive! Once again thanx for the help and suggestions!!!

I agree with all comments here, I have a DV Pavillion Laptop and not only do they run hot and are clunky, they are also slow and the screen attracts fingerprints galore!

If by any chance you didn't buy it yet.

Check with your school. Mac Book Pros are $2000 but through my school, students get a $200 discount and a free iPod Touch after MIR. Plus a free printer.

I'm more of a patient person. I've bought all of mine from HP.com. I wait until they have coupons that are like $500 off $1399 or more. I build out a laptop that's about $1500 and then with the $500 off it actually makes the deal super super sweet.

I'm waiting for them to release a new 17 inch AMD right now and once they do, I'll get another
