Ok, So I just started the art program at San Jose State, and I need a laptop for Maya, Photoshop, Illustrator, and other animation and graphic software. My teacher suggests a Macbook in the syllabis, but I want your guys opinions. (Macs are hella expensive!) I have never owned a laptop before, so please help me. ps, it needs to last me about 4 years and be able to run pretty demanding software.

A little bit more expensive will be fine if you think I will need it for the animation program. I have to bring it to school on next Monday, but preferably by Wednesday, so please hurry! You advice is appriciated. Thanks in advance for helping!

maya is mac compatiable i do believe!
macbook pro 17 if you can afford it, the dual gpus will be nice and 4 GB of DDR3 with that OS should run smooth If not look at mayas requirements and try to double them! ill go look for you.

Dell Studio 15. Its sleeker and lighter than any clunky HP laptop.
Its custom built so you don't get stuck with crappy outdated hardware. Most importantly: 1920x1200 screen. If you're doing any kind of design higher resolution not only means more workspace, but higher dpi, so your artwork will look crisper and cleaner. The Studio XPS 16 comes with an HD 3670, 4GB DDR3, a 45nm P8400 and a 1920x1200 screen for just under $1500. If you think you'll be doing most of your work in Maya, this would be perfect. The laptops you listed about would struggle mightily with 3d. If that is too much you can go with a Studio 15, which comes with a 3450, 2GB DDR2, the same processor and screen for $1150. The performance in Maya won't be as good, but if you can't go with the XPS then this is still a much better deal than the HPs.
