i was wondering, do SSD's actually increase the battery life? I could have sworn i saw people saying SSDs give 2+ extra hours to a laptop battery, while these netbooks im looking at all have 160gb harddrives and have better battery life then the ones with SSDs.

Usually one would like 160gb of storage, but i have my desktop PC, im just looking for a little PC to carry around to my classes in college next year.

yes they lower it, nothing has to spin up. just access the drive, no moving parts helps alot.

The laptop hard drive uses about 4 watts of power I believe, so replacing it would help a little yes, if you get the right model. Tom's hardware did a test and found that the SSD they tested with actually decreased the battery life... although on a netbook I think it could help. The big power guzzler is still the chipset though, which consumes something like 20 watts of the 28 watt system. It could net you up to an hour more of battery life but the drive would cost nearly as much as the whole netbook, and capacity would be very poor.

right.

have you done any reading up on netbooks at all? if so youll know that it is probably the best netbook out atm, and very very good for what it does. don't throw around such baseless comments without backing them up - you look like an idiot if you do.

OP, great review, and very informative. thanks for posting it .

Very nice review mothergoose729. I own a blue 1000HE. I have a dual boot with XP and Windows 7 Build 7068. I'm jealous you got a carrying bag. All I got was the sleeve. By the way for those who care I ran 3DMark2001 SE and 3DMark06 on my 1000HE with the CPU at 1.75GHz. I got 95 in 06 (CPU: 533, SM2.0 43, SM3.0: N/A) and 3,312 in 01.

Is that a default speed? Or can you overclock these?
