Hey all, I need some opinions.
I right now have an EEE 900 16g specs: 900Mhz Celeron M 2GB ram (upgraded from 1gb) 16gb Runcore SSD (upgraded in speed from ASUS Phison SSD) Intel 915GM Graphics. OS: Windows 7 RC I recently installed W7 over usb DVD which took 1.5 hrs. It runs well, though I can't get DX9 to support. the GM915 should... I used to run the default XP install with some modifications. My biggest beef about W7 is the inability to use anything better than the basic themes and I can't use eeectl in W7 to control fan/backlight/cpu clock settings. (wouldn't be a prob if I had an ATOM) I have a friend who will buy my current eee for 200 if I downgrade it to the 4g SSD and 1gb ram with an ubuntu install. (I would keep the SSD and RAM for another eee) My question is: What eee should I get if I sell my current one? I am willing to at max spend 300-350. Only requests: Atom processor and an SSD if possible (HDD is ok I guess) EDIT: oh, and battery greater than 2.5-3 hrs. And If you think I should keep my current EEE let me know! Also: I am not interested in holding out for the ION platform, it would be too expensive and I use my eee for productivity. Thanks! Mg

Isn't the simple solution to put XP back on your machine? Or perhaps Eeebuntu? As you say its for productivity, so my question is why do you want Windows 7 on it? What has it got the alternatives don't, in terms of productivity? Consider my Acer netbook, has openoffice soft, a browser, email client, can play movies and music, and boots in under 15 seconds, now i call that productive.
__________________Would be a whole lot cheaper too? If you really want a new Eee, my mate just got a 1000HE, its a sweet looking machine, except it has a HD and windows OS, but that's just my personal feeling. cheers Oz

I guess I should mention that I also need battery life to be a bit better than 2.5-3 hrs. I am a HS student, and plugging in has become difficult. I usually have 3-4 apps running at once, and the 900mhz celeron (630 on batt.) is chugging after two apps are open. I know the Atoms have the edge over a 630 mhz Celeron m. Keep in mind the 16g EEEs were made before the atom was put in NB's Thanks! Mg

Well, i'd have thought a self confessed OS nut would appreciate the abilities of Linux.. go on, give it a go! i get 2.5 to 3 hrs out of my 3 cell Acer.. Maybe its the Atom, but i suspect the OS might help too?

The ASUS 1000HE gets about 7-9.5 hours of continuous battery life

$369 is the cheapest I have found a new 1000HE found at http://www.google.com/product_url?q=...en&sa=merchant
I think if you can go a little over $350 then that would be the best bet. If not you can find a 1000HA for about $330 found here http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.a...S1000HABLK026X
